Here are some small college ones that are rather different. The Minot State University Beavers (Coach JD did some work here and I attended here.) Jamestown College Jimmies Both of these colleges are located in North Dakota.

From the TX Panhandle How about the Farwell Steers. How would you like to be named for a castrated animal?
Woodward Boomers doesn't have a lot of meaning to people out of their area. nor does the Beaver Dusters, both from OK.

Illinois is full of them. I just remebered the Argo High School Argonaughts and I believe a small southern Illinois school had the mascot Appleknockers. Although I don't think that school is around anymore.
