Just curious...every coach doesn't devise and maintain copies of their daily practice plan?

Just curious...every coach doesn't devise and maintain copies of their daily practice plan? All of my practice plans are filed for future reference and for cases like this. Also, I have a filmed parent meeting where we discuss the proper use of the equipment, specifically helmets, and tell them exactly how their sons will be taught to tackle. Probably the most important thing I do is FILM the practice where we go over tackling (first day in pads) to have proof that it was taught correctly. All the coaches are involved so no one can be pointed at as a potential "wrong doer". Had one parent 7 years ago that tried to accuse me of improper teaching of tackling when his son got nerve damage from a bad hit in a game. My practice plans, parent meeting film, and practice film went with me to the ADs office for a meeting and the parent dropped the accusations immediately following. COVER YOUR BUTT. NO ONE ELSE WILL.

sad situation all the way around. time to put the flags on the boys and keep the full pads just like our local youth league does.

I'm going to start taping the first day of practice when we start teaching tackling. I'm flabbergasted that they sued the opposing coach especially after all that he did for the family.

We got this advice at a Clinic a few years back. When you teach tackling on the first day. You may want to video tape it. The video should contain the follwing info; 1-The HC or DC should first read the the Warning Label on the back of the helmet. 2-The photoghapher should get a shot of every player and Coach in the program. 3-The HC and DC should break down step by step the proper tackling tech. 4-A shot of all other Coaches teaching the proper tech in small groups.(Whole Program)
file it then pray.

I guess we've reached a time where you need to document every move. We've always kept our practice plans and our coaches do a very good job of teaching - 1/2 of our staff is former players who were taught the same way they are now teaching our kids. Hate to see some one in the profession get treated that way.
