What is your philosophy with regards to summer break. Do you set up camps and or weekly skills nights during the summer, schedule 7on7s etc. Or do you keep that stuff to a minimum and really want them to concentrate in strength training/speed devel/conditioning work during the summer. Or do you really emphasize both? Also what kind of turn out do you get from the kids?

Our summer schedule is usually a disaster...
Kids never know what is going on and the head football coach and the head basketball coach are always fighting over kids.

summer:
weight room open M-Tu-W-Th with one early morning time and one evening time to fit the player's work schedule. One required to attend one of these two each day. Give them friday off. Players must attend no less than 80% of all scheduled workouts. They also have a summer running schedule too.
We try to play in 2 state 7on7 tourneys and 1 out of state 7on7 tourney. Plus, we are going to try to take our kids to an out of state camp (contact) at a college to let them see how other play the game.

During the summer is when the football engine starts to warm up. Although, some players go on vacation. A majority of the players are still around.
We go to a full contact camp. This year it will be at Uni. of Cal. Berkley. Then we host our huge 16 team 7 on 7 /linemen challenge tournament. When all that stuff is done; we start practicing on the field as well as in the the weight room. I also schedule 7 on 7 games vs. local schools. The dates we practice are M-T-F.

Monday thru Thursday for 6 Weeks. End of School until 3 weeks before our first fall practice.
2:30-3:30 Incoming Frosh workout 3:30-4:30 Frosh on Field with Varsity Coaches working / learning skills 3:30-5:00 Varity / JV Lift 5:15-6:45 Varsity on field (Ind, 7 on 7, and Team)
Every thursday we have 7 on 7 passing league where 3 other teams come to our campus. We go 15 firsts O and D, 12 Seconds O and D, 12 Firsts O and D
3 week dead period for us weightroom is open Mon- Thurs. Senior orgainze conditioning after lifting each day. Vacations are encouraged during this time.
