How do you get the count across to your players on a play by play basis during the game?
Inherent in plays, QB makes decision, coach sends from sideline?

What we do: QB makes the decision on some, Some plays (with motion) are on certain counts for timing. We also have a few specific quick count plays.
For reminders- we use days of the week at the LOS... Monday=1, Tuesday = 2, etc.

QB calls it the huddle 95% of the time. OC calls it if he doesn't like the randomness of the QB, special situation, etc.

Some plays it is a constant but most of our snaps are included on the wrist coach that the players are wearing.

QB makes the call on a few, most are indicated on the wrist band because the motion (or lack of) makes a certain count necessary or very advantageous.

Many years ago when I coached 9th grade ball. We used the down marker as our snap count. (Keep in mind - we used no motion)
We went on 1 on 1st down 2 on 2nd 3 on 3rd
If a kid forgot - He only had to look at the downmarker
4 on 4th if we were going for it on 4th and short. We moved the chains EVERY time.
Haven't had the cajones to try this at the V level yet. And we use more motion. hmmmmmm?
But for the two years we did this we made defenses jump A LOT!

We actually did that when I was at the 5A level. We ran 2TE wishbone almost all game... and we could never remember the count, so we did that. It worked well.
Now, we have so much in the way of motion, that we need certain snap counts. If there is no motion, we try to vary it a little (we can not go on 1 through camp).

For those of you that have mentioned using motion and therefore a play has an automatic snap count:
You must run the same play without motion, and with different kinds of motion.......How do you communicate the snap count then?

For those of you that have mentioned using motion and therefore a play has an automatic snap count: We call all of our motion... so "Ram" might be a set, "Ram Across" is that set with the A back motioning across. On certain motions we go on specific counts... it really has nothing to do with the play. Could you explain this in more detail??The reminders part... our OL seems to forget the count a lot, so if we call "Monday" in addition to other line calls- it means it is on 1. We have also used months (Jan= 1, Feb = 2, etc.), but days work better for us if we are not too forgetful. We make a lot of calls at the line, so it kind of blends in, unless we need it every play. At camp last year, a coach of a team we played said he was very impressed with how we communicated... we had all these Monday or Wednesday calls and he asked about it. I had to admit it... no one remembered the count A LOT.
