We are in our third week of practice and our first game is on the 27th. I was asked if I would like to scrimmage a team from another town next week.
I have mixed thoughts about scrimmaging 1. It will give me time to evaluate my players before the season starts and see if we are able to react to a game environment. “Blocking Rule” 2. It takes away one of my practices and puts me behind that week, and I will have to figure out how to get caught back up.
I would like to hear what you guys think about scrimmaging.

Is the team from the other town a team you play in your regular season? If so, then I would pass. If not, then I think I would go ahead and schedule it. The more game-like situations you can get into, the better.

We are in our 3rd week and we are scrimmaging next week. Its on a Saturday morning, so we aren't really loosing a practice. Ours is a pretty good deal, we go to a location with a bunch of teams and get 2 different scrimmages against teams we won't play during the season. The scrimmges are officiated which will help too. I think you really need to scrimmage before your first game to see where you're at. I would definitly video it and break it down so you know what you have got to do for your first game...

I'm all for scrimmaging before the first game, but doing it during game week could be an issue, depending on how detailed you game prep for your opponents. It definitely helps to get out there against somebody else before you do it for real in a game that counts.
