What do you do that is a shot of "instant intensity" for your team? It can be for practice or a game.
Include as much detail as posible ... give the intensity boost a name ...
I will compile the best of all that is submitted and will post it all in a single document on the Playbook page.

When practice is not as intense as I want it I havea 'three yard fight'... take blocking dumbies (not stupid 3rd string kids)and make a 3widex9long yard alley, then an OL v DL behind them LB v FB and finally RB v DB ..
.../...SS.../ .../........../ .../...LB.../ .../........../ .../...DL.../ .../...OL.../ .../........../ .../...FB.../ .../........../ .../...RB.../
RB has ball and on my call he tries to score by getting by the D with the help of his blockers. I make the same kids go immediately until they are dog tired or until the hitting picks up. Have had minor injuries occur in this but I just move the drill and have an asistant look at them or get the trainer. MAY TAKE ABOUT 5 REPS BEFORE SOMEBODY FINALLY GETS PI$$ED ENOUNGH TO GET AFTER IT BUT HAS ALWAYS WORKED...Have heard it called many different names

FBAA that looks like a modified version of the "Oklahoma Drill" very nice
We run live goalline early in the season during our situational period of practice. The 1st O vs the goalline D on the 3 and the whole team is around. Sometimes we play for braggin rights, other times for sprints off at the end. Either way it gets crazy. We always do our situational period last before conditioning. They are always good, but goalline is great.

We have a drill we call the rockem sockem cajun drill.. We stack up all our step over dummies.. and all of our hand shield.. make a huge bed of dummies.. we have a player stand in front of the bed with his back to it.. he holds a blocking shield up against his chest.. Another player get about a 15 yard start and sprints in and unloades on the guy.. It seems to get our younger guys unafraid of contact.. and teaches some intensity and aggression.. Speaking of West Point.. One of our kids was just accepted there..

We do, King of the Sumo Ring... The entire team circles around the ring (which is a 5 inch thick rope made into a 6 foot radius). Coach calls out a players name, that player steps in the ring. Then the Coach calls out another players name, he then steps into the ring. Both in a 3 point stance, on cadence, they fight to stay low and drive there man out of the ring.
Winner of the match stays loser leaves, coach calls out another name and the competition continues until the 10 minute period is up..

* - If intensity isn't there, on any day, they start running...period
* - If we want to hype it up, we can run BULL IN A RING drill
* - We also do a "drill" / game I slapped together for the defense. It runs the width of the field, 10 - 15 yards wide. Equally divide your players up and initiate a rugby scrum where they fight for possession of the ball. Once a player is on the ground and stopped - play is stopped and reset for the team with possession. The object is to either MAINTAIN possession at all costs while advancing it - OR - obtain possession by any means necessary (strip, punch, fumble recovery, chop, etc)

when one of our coaches yells enthusiasm every team member must get their hands up and show enthusiasm for 10 seconds. we start this in camp based on the principle that sometimes you have to fake it to make it. but then it catches on.
of course if a team member does not get going all must run or grass drill.
this is the first year we did this and we had a ton of success with it. i just kept yelling ENTHUSIASM our sideline would get pretty worked up.
however, we did have an excellent group of seniors this season so maybe that is why it was successful.
made things fun

Intensity, to me, is what separates football from other sports. You just can't show up.
One of my favorite phrases is, "Fake it, 'till you Make it"..... From the start of the year, we teach HOW to play and emotion is a big part of it. From a defensive standpoint, we NEVER take the field until we are ready. When we practice, we talk on the sideline, then we it's time to scrimmage.....we get the unit together and THEY GET READY to play ball by yelling, screaming, etc......if they don't do this (in practice) - they return to the sideline and try it again. We tell them, "you may be tired, you may not feel like it....but if you ACT like it....YOU (and your teammates) will get their body in gear and start FEELING like it (playing with passion & intensity). If you walk around with your head down, slouching....you're going to act like a loser...you're already BEAT. If you walk with your head up, chest out....and speak clearly...you will perform like a champion"....The Physio-Psych connection - train them like Pavlovion dogs in camp, so by the time the season hits, it's just the natural way they play.
