The OC at my school may be leaving to become a head coach at another school. I would like to become the OC if he leaves. Should I approach the HC about the position or just leave him alone and let him make his choice?

Don't assume he knows that you are interested. You have to make it known.

I believe strongly that if you want something, you have to go after it. There's nothing wrong with letting the HC know that you are interested in the OC position. Be sure to be ready to hear that he has other ideas for the spot just in case. Also, be sure that you are ready for the responsibility before you ask for it. Good luck, being an OC is a lot of work but a helluva lot of fun too.

Go after it!!! Ask the HC to sit down and discuss the position.

You have to talk to him. Even if he doesn't think you're ready then you need to know why.

Yes. tell him you want the position, but have a plan to SHOW him why he should select you as the OC. It could be your dedication in the weight room in the current off-season, it could be your command of the roster and how each player might fit into the system, or it could be a couple of ideas for using your kids in a slightly new way. Sell yourself so there is no doubt about who the right choice is.
