What is the best way to self-evaluate your program. My concern is that as a staff we are all in support of each other and what we are doing. I know we will get the truth from each other but sometimes I wonder if there is a better way. Does anyone have forms or a process they go thru when evaluating there season or program?

have you thought of going to a local college or another HS in a different conference whose coaches you know? write up/meet in person what you do and how you do it and why and then see what they come back with?

Based on what you are saying, there is a difference between self-evaluation and supporting what each other does. You can evaluate something in your program and criticize what is done yet still support the ones doing it. It is in tone and in point of view.
Case in point. We just lost in the semifinals and I did an evaluation of our defensive unit. As the DC I feel I need to look at everything we do with a critical eye. So I did go back and address what we do well and expressed my concern for what we need to do better. We need a better call on 3rd and 4, we need to do a better job on contain, we need to tackle better, we need to refine our zone dog coverage, we need to do a number of things--and this is from a semifinal team that was ranked #3 in defense and #2 in scoring defense.
But we can evaluate without pointing fingers and blaming and we do all support each other. I think you have to evaluate and I think that even a 14-0 state champion will look at an area they can improve. Obviously that 14-0 team did just that the year before and that's why they got to 14-0.
I think the fact that you all support each other will make the self-eval a little easier.

Brophy, you took the words right out of my mouth. Also you could take some game films to a staff that you respect and that respects yours and ask them to evaluate as well. Might help having an outside opinion as well. They might see things that you dont.

Clloyd,
I coach down at Milford and I just wanted to pass along to you that I thought you guys have made some vast improvements in your program. Scheme wise you guys have some good stuff going on and with some fine tuning could be very dangerous when those young men grown up. I'd be more than willing to assess from an opponents point of view what I saw from scouting you guys.
