You guys check me on this. We are looking at adding a 2 back shotgun package to our offense. Here is why: 1) Mobile lft handed QB that can throw on the run and read the option 2) Take pressure off an inexperienced offensive line. 3) Take advantage of some tall receivers with good speed 4) Allow our (5'10) QB to see better out of straight drop pocket.
What are your opinions, am I on the right track?
I like the two back shotgun stuff that Texas A & M did this year.

We used the two back a lot last year. Make sure you get the ball off quick. We use a lot of timing routes to accomplish this. Another key we thought...was misdirection with the QB and 2 backs. If your lineman are like ours (not good), give the def. something to think about. So they never know whos keeping the ball.
Toy with this set...
Z T G C G T TE FB X QB TB
put your fb and tb in the eye behind the b gap and put your qb in the gun......if your qb is a runner. this is a great set.

make sure your center is good at the shotgun snap..also install some silent counts. This helps especially when the band is playing. Timing is the key, but do not forget about going under center..alot of teams forget about this when they are installing a shotgun set

We get under center in the red zone for sure.

Thanks, I like the misdirection idea and I can see the importance on timing.
Do any of you guys use the option out two back or one back shotgun?

We're looking to go shotgun 2x2, 3x1 etc. Those of you that have run spread for awhile, how do you attack and protect 53 and 44 fronts, thats all we'll see!

Throw bubble and uncovered until they have to cover you up and then run the ball at 6 in the box. If they cover you up with man and no free, get good at throwing vertical.
