What do you guys do during the summer to talk ball in a relaxed atmosphere away from the school?

We don't do much of it here tog, but we probably should. However, I've been on a staff that took a trip to the coast (one of our coaches' parents had a house in Palacios) instead of going to the THSCA convention. We fished, BBQ'd, played cards, and talked FB. It was great.

i'd much rather go hang out somewhere than go to the THSCA convention. It is useless for the most part.

We did both last year. Was the first retreat I had gone on. It was really good. And then we went to the THSCA convention. Man, what a long week. But it was good.
Changed schools and this year we will only go on a retreat. We are going to Toledo Bend River. Al ot of new coaches on the staff so HC thought this would be better. Football in the morning and golf, fish, etc. in the afternoon. Plus, with San Antonio being so far away, I didn't mind not making the drive. And not the best line-up of speakers. I am one of the few I would imagine that goes to coaching school for the free stuff and the lectures. Pretty dull, don't go out and party. (too cheap)

I just stay in and party. The lectures are usually bad.

I love going to the THSCA Convention. I think it's a great place to learn football, plus network. You may not always find what you want to see in one of the lectures, but you can always find some coaches to sit in a hotel room or at a bar or restaurant and talk football. We have one of the greatest coaches associations in the nation, we should support it every chance we get.

Well, the backroom coaches clinics on a napkin are always better than clinic talks anyway.

i am all for sitting around and listening to some of the older coaches discuss football.
THSCA convention is all about networking and seeing your college football buddies!!

I like clinics and coaching school. If I can find one thing to use, then it has been well worth it. It also allows me to see how others may due things, thus why I have enjoyed this board. Reading most of the time. After some of these clinics, I usually like to see how coaches and players react on the field during practice. This, I think I get way more out of it. The Texans in Houston have been very high school coach friendly, and watching them during camps and mini-camps on the field have been very helpful. Going to colleges or even other high schools to see how it is done would be great, but usually the schedules do not coincide.

Coaching school is a time to see buddies and meet new ones. The lectures mostly are bad. All the good fb stuff goes on in the lounges of the hotels or rooms. The school I am at now goes on a retreat and to the clinic. We also talk ball a couple of times during the summer after we do our strength and conditioniing program for the kids. My previous school we must have talked something about football every day around the weight room.

We had at least 7 or 8 days this summer of all day meetings/work on the offense.
It was fun
