philosophy of offseason
how much do you work on leadership, team unity, character, grades
things like that?
how do you try and integrate that into the offseason?

We do a lot. I have 5 "leadership meetings" with our upcoming seniors in the early spring. We discuss the following: 1)Definition of leadership, 2) Areas of (team) improvement for the coming year, 3) ways to improve, 4) set all camp, conditioning and weightlifting times for spring and summer and 5) team building/team unity. I think this does a lot for us.

when you go to clinics and coaches talk about their offseason, it always seems to me that the ones that are successful and going deep every year spend time in the classroom with their kids in the early part of the offseason. doing character building and team unity stuff. and without fail, coaches everywhere in the room are thinking or saying, 'they can do that because they've already got the players.'
i think this is a very important aspect of offseason. seniors aren't there, so new leaders have to be found and a new team bond has to be formed. this can happen in the process of offseason, but i think kids need to understand what is expected of them as well. i've never been part of an offseason program like this, but i would like to give it a try and see who steps up because they learned what leadership and teamwork are.
