Could someone direct me to someone who is a "guru" of the empty formation. I'm looking at making this a big part of our offense this year. We've got a lot of skill at the WR positions and a good QB (not a runner, however).

"tigerone" on this board runs a lot of 3X2 empty sets- very knowledgeable!

I have ran a lot of empty formation and when ran correctly, can be a very dangerous weapon in your offense. The Keys plays are Jet Sweep, QB Dart off the Jet, Quick screens off the Jet, bubble screens, and Sprintout to either side. Too much dropback passing passing gets risky because of blitz, but quick pop routes to inside receivers off Jet fake can turn into big plays.

there are probably a few on here that run alot of empty (tigerone, airraid, etc.) and they can give you more info than i.
we use a limited amount of empty formations. what we have really started doing to "simplify" our empty package is to 'double call' our 3x2 routes. meaning, we will call a trips route on the 3 side & a doubles route on the 2 side. so, for instance, we may put the trips side on one our our "zone beaters" while having the 2 man side run one of our "man beater" rotues. qb (or coach giving signal to sideline) pre-snaps to determine side to work. this kept us from having to put in special 3x2 routes or alter our rules. now, we do have a couple specifically for the set, but for the most part we use double calls.

I'd be interested in this ....and how much of the offense is predicated on being 0 back? Our OC this year was one smart dude, and worked matchups as best than I've ever seen....this is some of the stuff we did out of Zero this year; (red is presnap movement)

Rooster, for us, empty is an extension of our normal offense, we run the same patterns and jet stuff as from one back. I think the key out of empty is having a good 3 step quick game and being able to throw over the top vs press. Y ou must be able to recognize and throw hots. A good read pattern and screen game compliment it well, as does a mobile QB.

You have to start your QB accuracy! Move to pass protection. Make a commitment to the system. I agree with a lot that is being said above...you must play the match ups, recognize the hots, and figure out what and how you want to approach the system (i.e. fast with no huddle, slow using the clock and recoginizing the defense, or a combo of both). Their is a lot to consider when looking at this offense. I will tell you this you need to start getting guys throwing and catch right now. Find good accuracy drills and hands drills and work them to death!

Just have a reason for going to a no back set...don't do it just to be doing it. Keep it simple...I like the bubble series, jet sweep, and QB Pop out of it...we run it with all of our formations, so there is nothing new for the kids to remember...same stuff, different look.

Louisville gets in empty a lot. So does Bowling Green.
