hmmm in oregon ...last years 4a (highest level) was a wing-t team, played a spead team for the championship. 6 out of the last 8 years has been a spread team winning it. Varies at lower levels.

Watched 6 championship games in Minnesota yesterday. 5A- Pro sets, multiple 2 back and some 1 back 4A- Pro sets, multiple 2 back 3A-Double slot 2A-Pro sets, multiple 2 back and some 1 back 1A-Pro sets, I backs 9 man ?? The teams that won all could throw the ball when needed and could run the ball and control the clock.

who are the 3A champs?
in pa, we typically get wing-t or teams like north penn/cb west that run "multiple" power stuff

Was watching some of the semi's in Ga. public schools today at work! 1A thru 5A and all were fairly multiple with more passing than I expected. Power running game/option/play action passing. Try to watch some finals next week!

Generally in Texas it's various sorts...
5A D1-I team in various fronts, 4-3 front and they reside about \45 mins from where I live 5A D2- Either a shotgun or ball control offense ran a 4-3
4A D1-Spread team with dual twins and 1 RB or go 3 x 1... 4-3 front 4A D2-Ran multiple offense with 2 TE and ran 4-4 cov. 0 a lot along with 1 and 3 (my high school) 3A D1- TE set mostly 3A D2-Explosive shotgun offense with a hellacious 4-3
2A D1-No clue on them 2A D2-TE set with shotgun
1A-I formation 6 man- Passing.
Generally shotgun offense is so prevalent in Texas. Problem with most shotguns is that they face teams that have the run the ball down your defense mentality and they geat beat. Same thing with teams that defend against TE sets have a hard time with spreads.
In other words, depending on the area you live in Texas, your either going to face more shotgun or more I.

In MD, state championships are next week... but here is what they teams run
1a: Wing T vs. Multiple I (Ben Tate is RB... Auburn committ) 2a: Spread (run 1st then pass) vs. Spread/Mult. I
3a: Run n Shoot (my team) vs Multiple formations
4a: Multiple Formations (run) vs Multiple Formations (pass)
Should be interesting...

got an interesting "theory" on success longevity with a program. take a look at the more successful programs - year in and year out - and what are the more common factors?
is money (or affluent area) one of them???

Affluency is very important, Huey. I also think stability within the coaching staff is also important. The willingness of those staffs to adjust their offensive and defensive schemes is certainly a factor, as well.

Well East St. Louis Illinois won a whole bunch of state titles in the 1980s and early 1990 and they are maybe the poorest city in the country.
