We had a thread going on here this summer about defensive coordinators being able to coach all the positions. It was an interesting discussion and is now coming through in unlikely ways.
We came up one coach short this year when a guy to coach our soph DL fell through. So our DL guy has to spend some time coordinating soph D. They had a game last night and meanwhile my LB coach had a death in the family and was going to be gone for 2 days.
So as DC I handed off my DBs to my assistant, borrowed our frosh coach (used to coach varsity but wanted to cut back on his hours) to work with backers, and I took the DLine.
I have to say that it was interesting to say the least, especially after the conversation on here this summer. I think that when it all came together I was able to do a little better than I expected.
It was one of those "coach what you see" days--I thought we're too high, so I pounded that. I wanted to work on closing down on trap on the inside and playing the wrong arm on the outside. Did that.
So I guess I didn't do too badly for a DB coach working with the big boys, though I'm sure they wondered why we were working on backpedal so much (kidding).
Thanks to the Board for posting your DL drills!
