Coaches, we are a very small town and we will be facing a difficult decision next year, we will (it looks like that from todays point of view) only have 4 Real Lineman on Offense. What do you think about the following: Any Comments??

Yes, X would be ineligible.
CoachWeigelt, certainly there is a young man on your roster who would love to play and would be willing to learn how to be a "real" offensive lineman. Teach someone to play the position and you will have a blast seeing the weekly improvements that he will make.

First year coach here, but wouldn't this be valuable to the opposing team sending 6,7,8 guys and disrupt the play before it started. Why not bring X in?

Well the problem is that all other possible guys for making the 5th Spot at Lineman are way under 100 kg (more CB type guys) so what you suggest to do?? Have somebody else play Center and move the Center out for the Tackle spot?? And what if anyone of the LM gets hurt??
We would let X run a stay route (Screen if you will) on each passing down and if he will not be picked up by the defense he will have the screen every passdown for 5 or more...
You cannot bring 7-8 because we would throw the short ball every time, worked for us for a long time and never had trouble with 7 or more blitzing people...

What do you think about the following: Any Comments?? Coach, define "real" linemen.. We went through this entire season without a real linemen.. we were a 5 wide throw the ball 90% of the time team.. Last game of the season my line broke down like this.. LT - about 5'10 175.. started the year as RB/LB.. LG - 5'10 260 - worst athlete on the team.. had about a 2 inch vertical and there is NO exaggeration in that.. C 5'9 165 - best ball player.. had gotten hurt a few games before.. but was back.. just small RG - 5'11 215 - good talent, but young.. only a sophomore.. had to play here because we suspended a senior.. wasnt great.. but could get in the way.. RT - 5'8 160 - VERY SMALL.. but HUGE heart.. worked his tail off and had good feet.. killed us here and there.. but made up for it most of the time.. So.. I say find yourself some kids with good feet.. and big hearts and teach them to get in someone's way.. and to not stop until the whistle blows..

If you write it like that my post from before looks silly The problem is that in our town most of the guys like soccer.. I think I will have to clone a lineman.. hehe

Now dont get me wrong.. we were not very good this year.. in terms of win/loss.. 1-9.. but.. in defense.. thats 1 more win than this team has had in the last 2 years.. and only 2 less than the last 3 years.. they went 3-7 in 2004.
Last year the team I coached went 13-1 and scored nearly 500 points and had over 5700 yards in total offense.
And we had a "decent" Oline.. only 1 kid over 230..
The year before that.. we lost 5 games by a total of 24 points.. and we had 2 kids under 180lbs.. and one very good sized kid.. but was an 18 year old freshmen.. that was how dumb he was.. I had to put all the play diagrams on wristbands for him.. actually had pictures of what he was supposed to do.. VERY HARD..

Find a tough kid who wants to start and do what it takes to coach him up. Size is great but give me a kid that wants to play, hit, tackle and be a part of the team over some big, slow, lazy player. On the other hand, maybe you should PM Coach Bryan and get his A-11 scheme.

What do you think about the following: Any Comments?? Where do you see your program in five years? Do you plan on running this stuff as your base in the future? If not then run the stuff you plan to run. Keep wrinkles like this but don't make it your base unless you plan to keep it. You're short on linemen? Make one. That's what the offseason is for.

Coach you gotta have more than 4 lineman, cuz if one of those guys gets hurt, you gonna only play with 3? I'm all about adapting to your personal, but you might have to make a project out of a couple guys who have a little dirt on their necks and want to play in the trenches.
