Guys I would like to hear your thoughts and signals for formations, motions and shifts. We will be no huddle and will signal in our formations and motions or shifts. I am making them all up now but would like to hear some ideas on what has been used before.

I think it would be better if you told us what your formations and motions and shifts were and then maybe we could help you better. Also, what level do you coach? If you have a guy that is/was a baseball coach they make pretty good signal-maker-uppers.

We are a spread team here is our formations: Doubles, Ace, Teds, Trey, Cluster, Trips, Panther, Hurricane, Tebo, Gator, Dayton, Ohio, Casino
We have all the motions and we call them by the receivers letter and where they are going ( H MO, Trace, In, Out, Deep)
For shifts I want to be able to trade the tight end, have a slot shift into the backfield.
I am at the highschool level.

don't over comlicate things. the simpler the better.
have things that relate to the original name you use for your stuff, like warrior said above.
also, let the kids make suggestions. i found that helps with retention and they kinda get a kick out of it. what makes sense to you and me doesn't always make sense to them.
my 2 cents, which are worth about 1.2 cents.

I agree the kids love to help with that stuff, and they get to feel like they are a part of it.

I think when signaling in plays like they said you have to keep it fun and simple. If it gets to complicated kids will get frustrated and there will be to much thinking and not enough just playing. But one thing I think is key, is you have to have 1 kid at each position 1 RB, 1 OL, 1 WR, the QB of course, that knows the ins and out of the signals. Beacause often times in the heat of a Friday Night games some kids will freeze up and forget the signals. Thats why its key to have that one kid that KNOWS them all.

Be careful though with kids and hand signals.
Two suggestions I got when requesting athlete opinions on hand signals: Jumbo: Hold my crotch Whack: Well, it looks kind of like rolling dice in front of your crotch.
Don't want to end up doing that in front of the community on a Friday night!

I signal all formations and make sure they are above the shoulders...then the players know it is a formation...not a play... I also point to the sideline that I want the strength to be!

All depends on your terms for formations and motions...
I have a full list of the ones I use. PM me if you would like to see it.
