How and when do you show your players the game film? By position? Saturdays (Friday night game), Sundays, or Mondays?
Do you grade your players?

We show the film on Saturday following a Friday night gamje so we can practice Monday.
We don't grade unless we have 2 kids equal at a position and they play similiar snaps in the varsity game. That will then help us determine who will play more or who should be starting.

Do you have enough time to break down film before Saturday, or do you just not get any sleep? Do you teach as you go on Saturday? I like to break down the tape 1st, so I can make notes & teach. Than I have to do the same with the next team. How do you break down film? How do you watch it with the kids? Thanks, bluecrazy

I can't stand watching the game film Friday night. I need to debrief.
In fact, the older I get, the more I can't stand to watch it at all. If we won, it's in the bank, and there's another challenge I have to worry about. If we lost, watching how we lost just raises my blood pressure/hypertension more. Besides, I was there. I've already seen it. But, I usually break it down Saturday after making exchange with next week's opponent.
We show the video to our players 5 pm Sunday, after staff meeting.

The defensive staff will watch the film Saturday morning, usually around 7am. After a friday night game on the road, that doesn't leave a lot of time for rest, but you can sleep when your dead, right? The players, myself, and our LB coach will watch the tape around 9. I've never ran into any problems where I didn't already have the film viewed, stats completed, and a few coaching points to point out by the time we watched it with the players.
For me, it puts the previous opponent behind soon after the game on Friday night and my attention can be totally focused on our next opponent. By the time the players get the upcoming opponents scouting report, our staff has already viewed our opponent numerous times, developed a game plan, and identified their weaknesses. When I walk into the meeting room on Monday, I have no doubt we can win and it shows in my presentation of the scouting report. I think that is important for the team to see. While they may be in the dark, they know their coaches are confident.

last year we came in early before the players arrived. That way the players got to sleep in and we got some stuff done w/o interruptions.

We pick up our film 7:00 am Sautrday morning from the company that films our games and then cut its up O/D/K and checkerboards it, SL/EZ.
The kids will come in and lift and run at 9:00 am. We will watch film with them at 10:00 or 10:30 am.
While the players are running and lifting the O/D coaches are quickly going thru the film.

We do much the same toprowguy, but we break up the season amongst the coaches to checkerboard the film... thank god for DSV! And after the kids lift on Sat at 9:00, we watch last nights game cut ups with them. At the half, two coaches leave and start breaking down film on next weeks opponent. Once the film is done we let the kids go (usually around noon) and the other coaches usually have two out of three games broken down play by play and entered in the system. We continue to power through the last game as a staff (usually last nights game) then start the process of tendencies.

We also grade out the kids but we have them keep track themselves... keeps them involved, interactive and honest.

Coaches come in at 7am on Sat, grade, count tackles and eat donuts. At 9 we bring the offense in while the defense comes in at 10. Offensive coaches review with their players while defense starts to break down next weeks opponents, then at approx 10 we switch. Usually done with kids by 11:30 at latest. Coaches will stay until they feel prepared, usually by 1 or 2pm.
