How do you guys handle people who want to volunteer and help coach? Community members, fathers etc.

They help where I need it. Usually Sophomore level or JV level. If his kid plays sophs, then I'll usually let him help with sophs, so he can see his kid play.
I just go over the rules, that there is no "posturing" for his kid to play more, and NO GUARANTEES. I don't make promises that I can't keep, and if his kid isn't good enough to play a lot, then he isn't going to play a lot. I'm not in it to make parents happy.

We put the part time volunteers on chain gang or teach them how to film or taking tickets. We don't want part-timers coaching the kids. Especially parents. If they really want to volunteer, they should be able to coach a team on which their kid does not play - and then they are part of the staff.

I know that in IL "volunteer" coaches are essential to most programs, because most schools will only let a HC have 4-6 paid assistants, smaller schools maybe only 2-3 paid spots.
