So, my wife has been bugging me about what I want for Christmas. I enjoy reading books about high school football and the teams. Can anyone suggest a book for me? I have heard of a book about Don Bosco Prep and another one about a team in Kansas. Just looking for ideas - thanks

The Kansas book is call "Our Boys." It about Smith Center HS in Smith Center Kansas. Their streak ended a 79 in last years state game. Haven't read it but have heard good reviews.

When I was falling in love with Football many years ago, I read Instant Replay.
Bless your wife, she's a keeper.

A book called THE WAY WE PLAYED THE GAME, it is about a Michigan high school team in the early 1900's. Very good read.

"Our Boys" is very good. I also enjoyed Tony Dungy's book "Quiet Strength" and "the Last Coach" bout Bear Bryant and "When Pride Still Mattered" about Vince Lombardi

My favorites have been mentioned already, but there's another De La Salle book that chronicles their games with Long Beach Poly that is very good.

This is a fictitious high school, but Bleachers by John Grisham is great!

"we own this game" is a great book about how not to coach youth football
about a youth program in miami that takes football way too seriously

My favorites have been mentioned already, but there's another De La Salle book that chronicles their games with Long Beach Poly that is very good. If I recall correctly, it's titled "One Great Game". It was a very interesting read, I enjoyed it. I'll echo Our Boys as being a good read. I'm reading one (amongst several at the moment) about St John's in Minnesota called "The Sweet Season". It's alright so far, I'm hoping it gets better but I'm not that far in.

I have read a ton of football books and are still reading them, but I have to suggest a book for people to read that isnt football related and you will not be able to put it down and learn a ton about never giving up.
The Lone Survivor
It was hands down the greatest book I have ever read. Sorry I know its not about football, but I feel i have to suggest it!

I just finished "The Galloping Ghost" about Red Grange and how he changed pro football from sandlot to the NFL just by playing in it. A great book. This is a story I can't believe hasn't been made into a movie.

Actually, books by coaches are of interest as well - thanks for all of your input so far. I have read many of these mentioned but have made a list about four books long so far. Also, what about books concerning coaching - Like the Coaches Bible - I have it. But other books along those lines.

I have read that book and I enjoyed it very much. I played small college football and it reminded me about everything I loved about small college football

Sweet Season is a good look at a non-traditional way to run and coach a program. St. John's and Pacific Lutheran are successful doing things in an entirely unique way.
