While I like the stuff, I've seen some coaches spearheading a drive to limit the use of Under Armour with their athletes, saying that it causes moisture absorption and promotes muscle cramping.
Just wanted to see if anyone else has heard of this or experienced anything like that.
I still use the stuff, personally, but noticed that I've experienced abnormal muscle cramping when wearing it.

I don't think it matters what you wear, cause the guys that get cramps will probably always still get them! Hey, some of the little guys I use to coach would actually wear they're school clothes under their uniforms in real cold weather(played on thurs. night), bluejeans or whatever! Is this considered under-armor you think?

I think it is part of the style over substance movement.
players want to look good now days when they play.
to me it is part of the pussification of the USA.

Every year, we will have a guy who I will nickname "Captain Eastbay" because he will have every cool accessory possible through mail order - matching UnderArmor top and bottom, UnderArmor ski mask for when it gets cold, elbow pads, those skinny little sweatbands, a Cowboy Collar, and finally, a visor to top it all off.

I know it has nothing to do with cramping. It doesn't pull the moisture from your body but what is on your body. This just makes me laugh. It is funny what technology is acceptable and not when it comes to a sport like football. With some of the comments we would all still be wearing suspension helmets no make that leather helmets. I still have guys who like a regular T-shirt and others who don't wear anything under their pads. It is all a matter of preference. As for the skinny arm bands that is dumb, they serve no purpose other than looks. As for other items like a shield, I am sure all of us at one time or another wished we had one when we got a thumb pushed 1/2 into our skull.

All I know is I look like a bowling ball stuck in a marble bag when I wear the stuff. And I am just spitballing here, but my guess would be Tog's wife won't let him out of the house in it either.

All I can say is thank god for loose fit under armour, other wise sea world may confuse me for a beached whale.

As a fat DT, I love Under Armor. It keeps everything from moving around when I'm running I suppose some player wear it because of "style". But I, and most other guys I know, wore it because it was a lot more comfortable than wearing a t-shirt under pads. That said, I wouldn't be caught dead with the stuff on in public... The "Captain Eastbay" comment was hilarious. That's what most of the players today are going for I guess. I say if it they aren't going overboard with the stuff, let them look like fools.

I don't see why they have to look "pretty" before games.

For me (I play in college right now) it's just what I wear to play football. I wear cutoffs to lifts, certain shirts for dates, and Under Armour to play ball. Just feels right, helps me get in the mindset. No idea what's going on with the little armbands though.

I think theres at least one guy on every team in history that likes everything to look perfect before a game. We had ours on my high school team back in 69-71, long before hollywood henderson, we had hollywood Martin! While the rest of us were either deep in pre-game meditation or throwing up our pre-game meal, Martin was calmly standing in front of the full length mirror in the locker room, fixing every pad just right and applying athletic tape to his shoes or wherever it made the best fashion statement. We all teased him about it but when you're the baddest ass 170 lb. def. end to ever play the position at our school, I guess you can dress however you want! I use to watch in amazement as Martin would beat his man, take on 1 or sometimes 2 blocking backs and still make the tackle by himself! In the two years we played together, I never saw an OT, TE or FB whup him, no matter how big they were! Tough Hombre! and snappy dresser too!

PS.- He(Martin) was also the state pole vault champ for several years and became a Marine Corps. officer after high school and a little JC football.

I don't see why they have to look "pretty" before games. Now that we're older things like this may seem silly but it's nothing new. Guys have always cared about how they look. When I played, over 30 years ago, guys were always asking for certain facemasks on their helmets. That had nothing to do with football. It was all cosmetic. After we were dressed every man on the team went to the bathroom. Some really had to go. I can guarantee that every one of us sneaked a peak into the mirror, though.

I was wearing underarmour, a thing for the pads and cleats to defensive meeting room. The dressing and def. meeting room where oin 2 sperate locations that you can access through HC's office or go outside and hang a right. It was a Senior (he was dressed only in his pads w/out a shirt on) and me going outside to the room. A drill team member (don't know why she was heading to the field house at seventh hour) was approaching us. Fastest 180 we ever did. Keep in mind that I was 6'0, 240 with a lot of jelly on me in underarmor. As for the stuff... I wore in practice and game time. I just wore the shirts because all the other junk was too tight on me.

naw what i mean is all the accessories like the visor and all the tape. last season i had a football player who never played a down I caught him in the training room taping his face and knuckles and every part of his body. I told him to take it all off. Cause tape is not cheap.
