Hi, I wanted to know how most of you were preventing cramps. We have had a few players who cramp despite drinking lots of gatorade and water. We have read about pickle juice and packets of mustard. Does anyone use these or any other method?

We have them drink a shot of pickle juice every game. So far it is working. I think it is psycosimatic but who cares!

both mustard and pickle juice are great solutions because of the amount of salt in them

Vinegar shots worked excellently for me in my career. Your mileage may vary.

Sweet, sweet victory! Although I guess I was doing it wrong...

From what I've heard, cramping can come from a lack of potassium. If you don't like pickle juice another good alternative is bananas. But since it doesn't have a lot of liquid it probably won't be as effective right before or during a game as a sports drink or pickle juice.

When I played in college 77-81 our trainer made us eat a tablespoon full of good ole yellow mustard before each practice and before each game. As best as I can remember none of us ever had cramps. I still eat a spoon full ocassionally today.
