I am just wondering what others have done on their first days of spring practice? Did you jump right into installing your offense? Did you have a bunch of newbies that had no idea what you were doing? I know that the first day is going to take a little longer for some of the newbies that are not used to doing what we do, but how much do you do the first day?

jump in with both feet. start with "building block A" and work from there.

Thanks, I am just finishing up Mondays practice plan, I was and still am looking for help, suggestions. I think with our returning guys and expected varsity players, we weill be able to start putting in our base, although a few core guys already know it and just need to know and learn what "new" things we are adding. What about the JVers? What in the hell do you do with them, if they have no experience? Most of them know our terminology, that just did not have a huge playbook, so some stuff is new.

We have started going out one or two days in shorts and do all our intro stuff (drills, plays, formations, etc.) before we go out in pads. Makes things go smoother when we get in pads. It does cost one or two days of practice, but we do so much talking and explaining the first day that we get that out of the way, then we can get on in to the fun stuff when we get the pads on.

We went the first two days learning in shorts and helmets. I think it helped us.

we finished our last thursday... it was the most fun and enjoyable spring training i have had in 17 years of coaching. the caliber of kids we have and the way we set it up was benefical for both us as coaches and for the kids. we put in the base stuff, evalutated the kids, and finished with only one injury. still got to find some OL, DL depth, and on DB. but that is what spring is for. thank god we didn't have to prepare for somebody else.

We start on June 5 ... 3 days of conditioning, followed by 6 in pads and then a spring game.

I wish we could use pads.
Our first day was great. A lot of learning going on. We installed most of our 4 man pressures and cover 3. Our O was rolling right along. Over all a very good day. My feet hurt and my voice is out of practice of talking so loud for so long.
