Coaches,
I know this is silly but a bit of a debate.
Do you encourage / demand / prohibit players from wearing a cup???
We don't. But I do tell them the story of the kid who had his shatter inwards.
I did not like wearing one and never found the need in football. Just wondering what you all think???

Coach, when we hand out gear we also hand out jocks and cups, we dont require them to wear them, its up to them.

Never wore one. It's the players choice. Do what you want.

To make a link between the thread on greatest sports movie lines and this thread, I quote the incomparable Kelly Lee, centerfielder of Chico's Bail Bonds (AKA the Bad News Bears) "If she don't wear one, I don't wear one."

You mean compression shorts don't do it all??? Wow, wait until my players learn about this, they think compression shirts and shorts are the answer to everything!

kids these days do not wear jocks for some reason. I see kids wearing boxers for pete sake.
I remember the good old days where all you wore was a jock. the lineman almost all of them had plumbers butt. two big white cheeks hanging out for all to see.
I used a cup, only because a friend of mine had a bad experience. he got hit, his jock flipped over and was cutting off one of the family. needless to say he was very uncomfortable. he came over to the sidelines, dropped his pants to adjust his jock. every one in the bleacher and cheerleaders got a good look. he still never lives this one down at reunions.

As a Center you would think I needed a cup but I quit wearing it in high school. they are just to damn uncomfortable. As for Jocks I only wore them in College. I loved tighty whiteys for playing ball gives a good snug feeling. Boxers the rest of the time to let the family breath. lol

To make another link about sports movie lines. In the movie Somebody Up There Likes ME, there's a scene where Rocky Graziano (Paul Newman) decides to go into pro boxing his new manager sends an assistant to get Newman the gear he needs. As an afterthought, the manager tells they guy to get him a cup. Newman replied "That's OK, I'll drink out of the bottle."
