Since we have so many great coaches with years of experience, I'm very curious about this.
What was his name and what college (if he played) did he go to?

Randal Mackey.. You will know him next year.. been at JUCO for the last two seasons.. will supposedly play at Ole Miss next year..
Also coached against Charles Scott and Ruben Randal both of LSU... both extremely good high school players.

Best player in H.S at the TIME was probably Joe Mcknight at USC. Peyton Manning wasn't really as much as a difference maker in H.S as Mcknight was so I would have to say Mcknight.

Have any stories coach about Iverson? Did they run the option? Wasn't he a QB?

Have any stories coach about Iverson? Did they run the option? Wasn't he a QB? They ran some option but there wasn't much "option" to it. Thing is you knew he was coming and couldn't do anything about it. Where he was really scary was returning kicks. Returned three punts for TDs against us. Fortunately two were (correctly) called back. HC told the ST coach that he was fired if we kicked to him again.

Caoched against D'Brickshaw Ferguson, Morlon Greenwood, Clifton Smith, Shane Olivea, Andrew Quarless and Jay Fiedler. Was fortunate enough to coach Rich Ohrnberger. These young men were men against boys on a High School football field. Tough to watch on game day but a pleasure to watch on film.

Since I'm a youngster, my names aren't household (yet). But you can check out this guy's high school highlight film and imagine what a task we had in trying to stop him in middle school. By the way, he just signed with Ole Miss. He will be there in the fall.

Pretty impressive when Peyton's the SECOND best player you've played against. Well, I think that just underscores the differences between H.S ball and higher levels. If one had to be truthfully Honest, Peyton might not have been the best or most important H.S player on his team. Eli certainly wasn't. Too many other pieces are necessary for a QB to maximize his value. Heck, at the H.S level, I am fairly certain I would have rather played Peyton than A.I. As far as Mcknight... well, our Punter ran him out of bounds....and that was about the only player who kept him out of the endzone.

Only been at this for three years but have coached against a couple kids that have gone to MAC schools (which is pretty decent for a D5/D6 league in Ohio).
Briggs Orsbon - Ball State He was a QB in high school on a very bad team (starting WR at Ball State as a freshman) that put him in the gun and let him run around. He completed more passes to us than his own team (threw 4 picks, 3 completions) but still beat us single handily. Run for well over 250 yards on the night and 4 scores running nothing more than QB Iso out of the gun. Absolutely unreal.
Heath Jackson - Bowling Green Kid moved from WR to QB half way through the season after their All-Ohio QB blew out his knee and made every play like a punt return. He threw for well over 300 yards in the game and may have run for 100 more.
Those kids on a high school field are absolutely unreal to watch. At times it is almost like they are just playing with you.

This past season, coached against an Alabama commit and another kid who has been offered by just about every ACC and SEC school. Both played defensive end, and neither were factors in their respective games. The ability to minimize the impact of stud defensive linemen is one of the few things I like about the veer.

Reggie Wayne. He caught 4 TD passes in a QUARTER the week before we played him. The real deal.
Maybe a better HS player was Rondell Mealy (LSU and Green Bay). He didn't have the college or pro career that RW had, but he was just as difficult to stop in HS.

Larry Fitzgerald. Holy Angels, Richfield, MN His junior year he absolutely scorched us. I had never seen a high school kid do the things he did it did not matter how we (try to) covered him.
His senior year we were a much better team. I think he only caught thee balls for 2 TDs, and threw another on an end around pass. He was also one heckuva linebacker.
We lost a shootout the first time, won in a blow out the second time.

Sean Considine of Byron Il, he went to Iowa and was drafted by the Eagles and now plays for the Jags. we had a state Championship team that year in a division smaller than Seans, His team won the state it as well, he played running back and DB, he ripped through us for about 300 yards and 3-4 scores, and had 1-2 50 yard runs called back, we lost the game 42-40 they kicked a field goal in the last minute or so. If I remember right I think he averaged something like 12-15 yards a carry his senior year, great player and on a side note has been incredible at giving back to our local communities in the area, nice to see somone really get it and do things the right way.

Perfectly serious. I understood who Iverson was. I was curious, as a coach, what they ran into. I'm more interested in what teams did to try and counter these players. I was thought they were an option team.

Kellen Moore, QB (Prosser H.S.- Boise State) Gaterade Player of the year for WA State Career Record in Completions Threw 66 TD's junior year and 67 his Senior year Highest QB rating in College football (As of last season I believe) In his senior year I believe he threw 7 TD's in the first half against us. Quite Sad, but a hell of a QB.

my team played against Jordan Wynn, QB, Utah (Oceanside HS, Oceanside CA). he'll be a household name pretty soon. he's real dang good. also played against Kenny Stills, WR, Oklahoma (La Costa Canyon HS, Encinitas CA). OU loves this guy and he did outstanding at their spring game this year and should get a lot of PT as a true frosh.

Seantrel Henderson (USC) and Michael Floyd (Notre Dame) were tough to get ready for for Cretin Durham Hall. Our HC coached Joe Mauer when he was at CDH. That program has put out some outstanding individuals and has had some real good teams.

Sergio Kindle.
Sure he played LB, but he also was the starting RB. We sucked, and it was a long night. Man among boys.
