Just curious if any of the huey board members have any up to date info on K.B, S.H or W.C (Fields) ;D as we approach the one year anniversary of the NFHS's closing of the loophole. Did any members purchase the materials? Any play against them, or belong to their association?
Lets try to keep it civil. No need to discuss if you thought it was stupid or if you thought it was great. Not the time or place. This is a genuine curiosity...

Coach -
I have visited the a11 website a few times during the offseason. I believe Piedmont went something like 6-4 this past season and made the playoffs. Sounded like they had most of their problems on defense because they were still scoring 30+ per game on offense.
Honestly, I applaud what they have done. It is pretty radical and now it is completely legal. No one can accuse them of subverting the rules and exploiting a loophole any longer.

My understanding is that they now have 5 guys on the field numbered 50-79 for all offensive snaps. 2 of those guys are called "anchors" and will receive backward passes and run sweeps and things like that. The other 3 guys are more traditional offensive linemen types. I guess my point is that the a11 guys are doing a lot of the same stuff they were doing before but aren't exploiting a loophole to get away with it.

I think they simply base off of the BYU formation with the tackles spread...and then they vary from there. It isn't A-11 in that all 11 players are potentially eligible pre-snap, they obviously just kept the name for the "brand" sake and marketing. I agree with 19delta in that it is now "complaint" proof (but not scoff proof )

The school that I coach at now, played a team last year that attempted to put it in. Half the time when they would step on step off the LOS, and would never have enough on the LOS. They had no clue what they were doing. (I think the refs wouldn't flag them all the time because they felt sorry for them LOL) They used it as a change up and would have kids change their jerseys on the sideline. Couldn't help but cringe when I watched that tape.

KB was speaking at the Northern Cal all-sports clinic this year. I didn't check it out but one of our other coaches did. He said that they basically are just basing out of the BYU formation, getting an extra blocker out there to block for bubble screens, faking screens to the ineligible player and throwing deep, etc.

Yeah I have no issues with what they are doing now. If they'd focused on this rather than the jersey # stuff I think they wouldn't have caused such an uproar (though all attention is good)?

Looked at 2009 W&L record at PHS. They blew out a lot of teams, but these teams are traditionally weak in the SF Bay Area. They still were scored upon quite heavily . Now here is the rub! The teams that beat them their was a Low score ratio on both sides. Which leaves me to believe that the opposing Coaching Staffs placed their best players on the defense when opposing the A11 and played very conservative ball on the offense side with great clock management. My Old Mentor said this" You can Razzle Dazzle all you want, but when we stop that, what can you bring to the table? Because that Party Hat and a silly whistle is not gonna win ball games"... It seems that the two inherent problem with the A11 system is you need 11 very good athletes who can Run, Catch and Block and Think, this takes away from the defense, why most teams have 14 to 15 good players and big fat guys do not work well in this system. Because the A11 seems more complicated than say a 21 or Wing T based, or Spread HS offense time becomes the factor in install and game plan therefore taking rep time away from the defense and scout team efficiency. Look at the numbers in 2008/2009 max prep and you will see this. How We would direct our game plan vs A11 would scout and study a close game. What Defense worked the best vs this offense. Their best 8 plays to be taken away, and who is their go to guys in certain situations, and when the Razzle Dazzle starts to fizzle what does the OC do, go to panic mode and start drawing things up in the dirt or continue to hammer the same hoping for a break. Speed will beat this that is for sure, just the right formation and cover used by successful teams. I also remember that we would play 5 plays of a Wishbone in HS every practice so as to be prepared for the team when we met them later in the season so as to make the game week prep that much easier I do this with Zone blocking schemes now. I myself do not hate the A11, I have never had to play against it, I have seen it. Traditionalist hate new things, but Pop Warner, Knute Rockney and Paul Brown were not traditionalists either. The unfortunate thing is the A11 does not appeal to Div 1,2 recruiters. No O-line, QB, but not in situations of pocket or pressure, RB´s can´t see what they really do inside . WR, hey they can catch... so can 10000 other kids, but can they make the big plays with out the smoke and mirrors? So lets get one for the interloper...

Didn't purchase the materials.
Haven't coach against it.
Do not belong to the association.
Just chimed in to say that regardless of what anybody thinks of the A-11, for a brief moment, it undoubtedly put a dent in the football universe.

But I haven't heard his name once since he stepped down from coaching there and stopped posting here on this site

Piedmont got put into our league the year after he stopped coaching there. I remember the playoff game they had against Los Gatos. Ouch.

You won't find any trace of the A-11 there anymore.
