I'm a high school football coach and a teacher but I don't teach where I coach.
Got my stipend check in the mail the other day and I noticed that Social Security was withheld from the check. In my state, teachers are on a state pension program and don't pay into Social Security.
So I called up the school district that issued the stipend check and explained that the money that was deducted for Social Security should have went into the Teachers Retirement System instead.
Today, I got a check from the district for the exact amount that was deducted from the original stipend check for Social Security.
My question is, what do I do with the check? Am I supposed to send it in to the Teachers Retirement System? Or do I keep it?

Good question. I would call the Retirement system to see if there are ways for you to directly pay into the system. If the school sent you a check for the amount that they originally were going to withhold, then that means they probably aren't withholding anything.
