I helped with the local youth leagues football camp at the college's stadium this week and I was asked by a head coach to help him when I can. I told him that I really didn't want to tell him yes because of my coaching duties at school taking most of my time, but he insisted I help. I told him I would help as much as I could, but couldn't promise I would be at any games since they play the same night as we do.
On a side note, I was disapointed with the coaching level of most of the coaches. A couple of us had to go back and reteach what other coaches were doing because they did it wrong.
I also asked the coach that wants me to help him about using unbalanced lines, and he had no clue. 5 minutes after seeing the rules, I saw the loop hole. The 8-9 year olds have to use a head up 5-2, so go unbalanced. He asked me to show him on paper so I did and now he says he wants me to install something with unbalanced line.
I have already asked the coordinator for the league, and he said they will have to line up like this.
------------------L---------L ----------E--T-------N----------T---E --------------O--O--O--O--O--O--O ----------------------O
LB's have to be 5 yards off.

They should let the defense adjust or not allow unbalanced.

They should let the defense adjust or not allow unbalanced. They should just let the kids play football and not put in all these ridiculous rules ... sheesh ...

They should let the defense adjust or not allow unbalanced. I don't think they have ever had anyone that knew that you could go unbalanced or the rule would already be changed. I think they should let the coaches run whatever they want to run on defense.

I agree totally that they shouldn't constrain either one. But if they're going to restrict one side of the ball, they should even it up for the other, was what I meant.

The thing that gets me is none of the coaches have seen the power that going unbalanced would give them. It took me as an outsider looking at the rules for 5 minutes to see it, what were wrong with the coaches that have been playing under those rules for years?
