Just a quick note to the board (since I've been on here a while and consider a lot of people friends on here):
I feel pretty blessed to still be here and still be coaching. Right after school was out, we have a 2 week dead period-it is when I take the one major trip of the year on the Harley before we start our summer workouts.
My DC and I rode out with a few others to Wyoming- they went west from there and I went south to Colorado to visit family. On the way back home while traveling a highway in Eastern CO, I hit a deer (I was going about 70...probably made contact with the deer at 45 mph).
The bike is totaled, the deer died. Overall, I'm OK, other than some pretty big bruises and serious road rash (will take about 6 weeks to fully recover. This was about 12 days ago and my right arm still looks like a ribeye).
That experience has made me very thankful for all that I have- including the opportunity to work with kids in the greatest game ever invented.

Wow Senator, glad you made it. Hope you get better soon. This is an awesome place here, we are like a family that's for sure. I've made some good friends, reunited with others, and there are some I hope to meet some day.

Senator, glad to hear that you're alright.
Did you get to keep the venison?

We hunt deer differently down here in Alabama. LOL
Glad to hear that you are ok.
6 weeks to recover; just in time for football.

Wish I did. Still if I tried to cut it up myself, I might confuse my arm for deer meat.

Generally, we do too. Something tells me that a gun is a better weapon than a motorcycle.

Generally, we do too. Something tells me that a gun is a better weapon than a motorcycle. Sure, if you're preoccupied with safety. Now, if you're interested in accuracy.....

Glad to hear you are back on the mend! Not a great way to end a fun trip! Hope your back on your ride soon.
I hit a deer on a beautiful stretch of road called Chuckanut Drive when I was in college. Broke my hip and lost some skin. mortally wounded the dear. Not only did they not let me keep the meat, they shot the damn thing about six feet away from me after I had just regained concoiusness. Scared the shite out of me! I was covered deer guts and deer dung! My Front Fener cut right though it's belly.

The Motorcycle Safety Foundation is really a good source to help riders know the safety regulations and good riding habits of motorcyclists.
I live in Austin, Tx. It's been named the 'Motorcycle Death Capital'. That's right. More people die of motorcycle related injuries here in Austin than any other place in the United States.
All of this brings up some very important questions for you, Senator. . . . . . Was it a buck or a doe? If it was a buck, was it at least a 12-point?
I only ask because, although I agree with phantom about accuracy, some Jack Daniels and a half decent dirt bike is all you need to take out any deer 10-point and under if you're really committed to gittin 'er done. Oh, yeah, sure. I know what people are thinking right now. Harleys deliver a much more lethal impact to a deer and, that's absolutely true. But, if you use one on small deer, it sort of makes the rider look like a pu$$y.

Doe...but it was a big b*tch.

I think JD is considered a performance enhancer when it comes to this type of situation though...
I am just happy I can laugh about this now (still, I'd have made a lot more on the bike if I had sold it rather than wrecked it).

Coach sorry to hear that. This SAME thing happend to my buddy who is OL at Elon. Hit a deer at 7am. Deer dead..him almost..he was in intensive care for 5 days. He was wearing leathers so he was OK. I think he is going to mount his Harley on the wall as his riding days are over

Glad you made it ok. Shame about the bike and your arm, though. Hope it heals quick.
Reminds me of something...

Man, that'll wake you up, glad to hear you're getting through it with your sense of humor intact!
You even topped the comedian Ron White's preferred approach - He tells a hee-larious story about the big deal his cousin makes about the skill required to hunt deer while sitting in a tree stand waiting for an unsuspecting deer to blunder into the wrong place so he can use a high powered rifle with high velocity shells to take him down. RW's point was it takes much more skill to use a van driving down a highway to take a deer out by intersecting said deer as it bounds across the road, but man, they way you did it, now THAT takes some serious skill!
"Kids, don't try this at home."

phantom and bulldogoption - sorry to hear about your friends. We had 2 biker vs. deer accidents in this county so far this year. One died and the other has been hospitalized for more than two weeks now.
The fact that I walked away with just a few scrapes and bruises must mean that God still has something for me to do down here (hopefully that involves a lot more football)- because the odds were not in my favor at all.
