Lane Kifin & Steve Spurrier were both banned by highschools this year. One of Kiffins assistants was actually told to leave by the schools Principle.
My question is, how do you or would you....
College coaches: .....handle being banned from recruiting at a HS?
HS coaches: .....deciding to ban a coach or school from recruiting your players?

i do not think this is odd. there is a a lot of negative recruiting done by coaches today.
I would think you would contact your AD with the behavior which the coach from the offending school has done.
as for handling it. to be honest the high school coach can be cut right out of the process if the recruit is good enough. as an assistant college football coach one would just talk or tweet now to the individual player and not talk to the coach. this would be for a 5 star recruit.

I can see banning recruiters under certain circumstances. If we believe that a school has treated one of our former players unfairly we might keep them from recruiting in the building and we'd tell the player who they're recruiting why we did it and what we think about the program.
I don't know about Spurrier but I know that Kiffin publicly bashed the high school. I wouldn't let him on either.

Lane Kiffin is really doing a fantastic job of p-ssing people off; all over the country... Between getting banned from high schools and accusing Urban Meyer of recruiting infractions, he's just on a roll.....

Not much danger of that here.

The fishy thing about the Kiffin incident is that the principal who banned him is a UF alum w/ a gators logo on his webpage on the school's website.
Personally, I think it's incredible that a coach who's coming onto your campus to offer a full scholarship to a student would be banned. The difference between escorting a man off campus and telling a staff they're no longer welcome (Spurrier incident) is significant in my mind. The principal actively prevented a student from getting a scholarship offer by having the man leave, whereas the other principal merely issued a statement that USC coaches weren't welcome anymore. I could be getting my facts mixed up, but I think I'm remembering correctly.

Spurrier pulled an offer from a kid that he never wanted to be offered. One of his assistants that is no longer with the program offered the kid without SOS's permission, so when he found out he told the kid flat out.

Kiffin pubkicly accused the school counselors and administration of being incompetent based on the recruitment of a previous athlete. If Tennessee wants him others do, too. I'm not a fan of either team so I don't care.

Universities and coaches are not required to honor any of these "offers", (nor must the students honor any acceptances of offers) until that day.

Sounds like the High Schools are IDIOTS!!! WHY wouldnt you want a College Coach at your school to talk to him about College?? To futher his education and play football. Hey if you guys dont want em, send them to us! Little more complex than that coach. In the South Carolina/Spurrier situation, the H.S. player was "offered" and had "committed" to South Carolina early in the recruiting process. (Those meaningless words again). However, these actions definitely influenced the actions of other schools with regards to their recruiting plan, namely the player might not have been a part of it. The position coach/coach who recruited the player left South Carolina...and Spurrier immediately withdrew the already "accepted" (again, meaningless) offer. The H.S kid was then left exposed and possibly holding the proverbial bag. So those H.S coaches--the "idiots" as you call them, DID have coaches in the school. A group of those coaches had already gotten one of the H.S. students to agree to further his education and play football at their university instead of numerous others...only to revoke that invitation later in the process.

Hey if you guys dont want em, send them to us! My job as a high school coach is to protect my guys and try to guide them through the process. If I feel that a coach is a dirtbag, I am not going to suggest that one of my guys goes there. I've played for a bad coach and know how it can ruin peoples love of the game. Chances are if Kiffin or Spurrier are knocking at the door so are other D1 coaches. Why go with someone who has burned your kids or talks endless smack out of his a!!

Well...now hang on a minute... While I am no fan of Kiffin...some school administrations and counselors are pretty inept when it comes to NCAA and athletics. We have 4 guidance counselors here and only one of them has a clue about athletics. I mentioned the NCAA Clearinghouse to all 4 of them and only 1 had a clue, I even tried NCAA eligibility requirements...again, same 1 had a clue. and on the administration end...our principal actually told a college coach he couldn't see the coaches or players during the school day. That coach happened to have an offer in his hand for the kid, which he eventually did get to offer the kid...but that kid's parents came up here and to the board meeting and voiced their concerns ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) and since then when coaches come in they are allowed to meet with the HC. In that principal's defense, she was an elementary principal for 20+ years, she came into the HS and things are a little different when kids are ending their HS career than when they are beginning them...but inept she was. But I also think it is the coach's job to help educate the guidance counselors and administration about the process and what's going on. I know when things need to be faxed, I know when kids need to register for the clearinghouse and to take the ACT, I know the sliding scale, etc, etc. I think that is incumbent on us as coaches to make sure all the I's are dotted and all the T's are crossed. That's not the point. Kiffin publicly derided the school to make himself look good, at least in his eyes. I haven't followed the situation closely but I think that all that the HS coach is asking is for a public apology to the school. That seems fair.

The principal is probably ticked off, because now this person has to stay after school to help with extracurricular activities.

Kiffin has already publicly apologized to the Coach at Pahokee and they buried the hatchet. The principal now wants him to come to Pahokee and publicly apologize to the whole community. Kiffin shouldn't have said it, no doubt, and he should apologize to the whole school, imo. But he shouldn't have to go down there and jump through hoops. I think there's prolly enough blame to go around here, Kiffin shot his mouth off, and the principal is headline grabbing, they both should share some fault in this. I be quiet now or I'll turn into a fanboy poster. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Wasn't addressing the Kiffin deal directly as I am fairly indifferent to Lane Kiffin or for that matter the University of Tennessee. But Al Davis doesn't like him and that's good enough for me to not like him too. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) I was pointing out that in my own building we have people in some pretty important spots that have no clue what they are doing NCAA athlete wise, so that is entirely possible for administrations and counselors to be inept. I can't disagree. Many guidance councelors get into it to get out of the classroom and are lazy when they get their guidance positions.

The issue, as I see it, aren't Lane Kiffin's opinions, but that he chooses to air those opinions publicly.. We're all entitled to our thoughts about situations, but going to the media and airing them is bad news. I mean, we live in an era where communication is fast and expansive.. Even saying something in what is thought to be a closed environment can get out and spread like swine flu...
I am still amazed by how many people trash their professional peers via email and text message; once you send out the electronic communication, it's out there FOREVER...At one of the schools in town, a teacher resigned( (professionally and politely) via email. Apparently, they were't one of the most popular educators in the school..Several of this person's peers got a hold of the email, wrote nasty comments on it and started forwarding it around.. And what happened? It got back to her AND the administration; needless to say, there were consequences for their action.

Kiffin also told a South Carolina recruit that he was recruiting that if he went to SC, he would pump gas the rest of his life.
Why do people get mad at the coaches for pulling offers, when the players change their minds all the time. Maybe the coaches watch more film or talk to the kid more and are turned off, the same thing happens with the players sometimes.

It's because of Kiffin's running of his mouth about Meyer cheating and this prinicple being a Gator fan. And IMO, it's doing his kids a big disservice to prevent or hinder their recruitment. If I'm the recruit's parent, and I find out the University of ____________(fill in the blank) showed up wanting to offer my kid a full ride, I'd be pizzed, and have something to say about it under these circumstances. Now, if the kids coach had an explanation about why this particular coach or coaching staff was persona non grata because they'd treated a kid wrong in the past, that might be different. Kiffin is making a fool of himself in these parts. He's going to be real tough to handle if he actually is successful. I have to confess I'm ignorant on any Spurrier incident. What's that about?

Maybe the coaches watch more film or talk to the kid more and are turned off, the same thing happens with the players sometimes. I've heard that before. What a crock of sh*&t. The kid's 18. Kids make mistakes and change their minds especially when put under the pressure that college coaches use. College coaches, when deciding who to extent offers to, have the benefit of having met as a staff and gaining a concensus (well, maybe not at South Carolina). We've had a player change his mind. It's embarassing. We've also had some staffs change their minds. Believe me, whan that happens you've got some 'spailin' to do.
