I didnt want to steal from the fundraising post, so I wanted to ask this in another thread.
We are a VERY small community which has very little commerce.
There is however a very large town 10 miles from us. Lots of our parents more than likely work in this town.. and most of our teachers and admin live in this town.
I want to hold on spot fundraisers there.. and ask for support from those businesses located in that area.
Would you say it would be safe to assume that they would fund us? Do any of you get a good support base from an area where your students do not live?
There is a small private high school and a 5A school located in the town itself.

Why not go for it? Check around with parents to see where they work and go from there.

Go for it but be prepared for some resistance - being out of town and the local public school vs private school snobbery. Try and sell the merchants that your kids/parents are also active in their community. Also give them something like game schedules/posters, t-shirts, season tickets, etc to let them feel like you value them as a supporter. It can be a tough sell but it can also be well worth your time.

Sure, they will support you. This goes on in every small town that has a big town nearby.
Your townspeople work and spend money there. They will support you in return. I wouldn't worry about a thing.

That's what I thought too! We do a Varsity Gold card and ours is 10 dollars cheaper than the next big town which is only 17 miles away. We are a tiny town and everyone goes to this town to eat, buy goods, ect.. I made sure we got our card a month before any other town and took my team up there to sell cards. I figured it would be good because A. we had all their businesses on our card anyway and B. It was half the price... My kids went door to door and only sold 1 freaking card! They said that everyone was telling them that if they bought one it would be from their own school. I was extremely dissappointed...
