HOW TO SHARE!
In the last program I coached in, we had a real problem with the basketball and Legion baseball coaches persuading kids not to play football.
The basketball coach told kids that they would have a hard time making the basketball team if they didn't participate in open gyms. These open gyms took place after school, during football practice.
The Legion baseball coaches filled the kids' heads with all kinds of crap. They told them that they wouldn't get looked at to play college baseball if they played football because recruiters were afraid that theyd get hurt. They talked a lot of kids into quitting football to play fall baseball, again using college scholarships as bait. They tried to keep kids out of the weight room because they said it would mess up their throwing and batting mechanics...
This wasn't random gossip, either. We had a lot of kids coming to us asking us if this stuff was true. How would you deal with this situation?

Umm.... you might want to point out that a football has many more scholarships than all the other male sports combined. I have know only know of one athlete to get a FULL scholarship in baseball. he was a lefty that threw smoke. most scholarships in non revenue sports are divided down to the tenth of a scholly. so a kid could get a .30 schoalrship. When I worked for a 1AA scholarship team, the the LAX and baseball coach (both friends of mine) used to regullary ask us if we happened to have any kids not good enough for our team but might be good enough for them.. they wanted the the tough competetive player. Both these teams have made it to the final four in their respective sports
