Inm honor of Friday the 13th the question is do you have the number 13 on a jersey? If not is it because you feel it is unlucky?
Do you have any other superstitions on game day?
We do not currently have a #13. But I did not order the jerseys. At another school we had a #13 who was one of our best players.

We don't have a #13, but it has nothing to do with superstition. It just wasn't a number that I selected when we ordered uniforms a couple of years ago.

We don't have 13, because of superstition. We don't have 69. Everything else is hanging in the equipment room if the kids want it.

No animal sacrifices before a game - that's an actual rule that I have.

#13 has been good to us. Our last two #13s are both scholarship athletes now at pretty good colleges for that level (1-AA).
Our #69s usually get in some sort of trouble.

No animal sacrifices before a game - that's an actual rule that I have. I actually had that happen at one school I was at. A couple kid went squirrel hunting before the game and brought the dead carcas into the locker room and were playing with it. That was too messed up for me and we had a little "come to Jesus meeting" with the kids.

We have 13 and 69 but have decided we will never issue #1 again. Have had some turds wear it the last few years and had kids argue over trying to get it so we got rid of it. Plus we think it's kind of a me thing to wear #1.

In my case it was a turtle. We played horribly against a horrible team and all the breaks went against us.
Every player that I've ever had in #34 has died in a car accident. I will never issue that number again.

We didn't choose the #13 when we picked out new jerseys, I just don't like it. We also got every single digit except for #1.

I kind of have to smile at some of our guys who've picked #1. Most our guys who pick it don't get on the field much. Of course that's because their position coach (me) screwed em over.
Was at one school where we had 3 straight years of #42 blowing an ACL. The 4th year the kid didn't do it, but did once he got into basketball--wearing 42.

At the last school I was at #13 was a "special" number - only stud kids asked for it. As others have said we don't buy #1 - usually some kid who's all about me, and usually overly cocky, especially in comparison to their ability. We also don't purchase #69 - usually requested by the biggest dumba$$ on the team who smirks when he asks for it, thinking that the ancient coaches can't possibly have any idea why they want the number.

No 69.... That is a good one At the college where I played football, every starting center in the last 20 years has worn #69... Don't know how it got started, but every film I had seen from the past had good old #69 in there.

I do not buy single numbers period. single numbers show they different. 10 through 99 are the numbers i get.

#13 is retired at my HS. Worn by a player and dear friend of mine who lead us to two State Championships in the early 90's. Unfortunately he lost a battle with depression and took his own life a few years back. The number will never be worn by another YHS football player. Miss ya DW!

Had a player with the last name Klitz pick number 69. The guy who printed the names on the back of the jersey had to call and make sure we weren't pranking him.
I'm not challenging anyone else's policy, but based on my own experience I think the single-digit thing is overrated. The players I've coached who have worn single digit numbers weren't necessarily any cockier than those who wore other numbers.

23 is unlucky for us.
Every kid who has worn that number has been injured and out at some point during the season.
When I played, the best athlete who ever graced our school wore that number. He had a season ending injury ALL 4 of his varsity seasons.
He still is our school's all time scoring leader in basketball, though.

#13 didn't prove to be too unlucky for Dan Marino!
We got rid of #1 on our last jersey order. I plan on getting rid of #69 next time around.
I can't stomach #1 after we had a kid who was a stud who got the death penalty for drinking before his senior year. We got crushed without him since he was our returning middle linebacker and fullback. Interesting thing is that his last name was d(i)ck. He really F'd us over!

As the ancient coaches know the kid has no idea why he wants 69. Absolutely! We had a couple freshmen this year who used the ol' spank-and-hump-the-air maneuver when they wanted to celebrate something during practice. It always cracked me up, 'cause these kids were way too young to even know what rough sex MEANS, let alone have happy memories about it.

If he was a DL, I would've handed him #96 and told him it was code for something, but he'd have to figure it out... I was a big enough dork that I had no idea why everyone was giggling over asking for #69 when I started playing at 14. We had it sitting on the shelf in plain sight, but the coaches refused to issue it.

I let my kids pick theri own #'s. I think because it's not a popular player's # nowadays you dont see it all that much. I'd order it if a kid asked for it

Yikes! Sorry. What I MEANT was that it's funny because they're teenagers, and teenage boys are hilariously clueless about anything related to girls or sex. In retrospect I could perhaps have phrased that, uh, a little less alarmingly.

I inherited 13, but probably won't replace it. I don't care, but some kids do, and I don't always have extra jerseys. I don't like single digits, just me, so I'm phasing them out. No 69 for the same reasons as everyone else. Won't issue a #1.

We don't use #3. Years ago we had a great kid and great QB who wore #3 and was killed in robbery. The boss eventually gave in and we gave #3 to a kid who led us to our first state championship then got killed in a car wreck.
#13? I like that a kid has the balls to ask for it. Kind of the same for #69.
