I have been playing around with the idea of organizing a one day clinic. For those of you who have been involved in organizing a clinic, I have some questions.. (and yes btw I have used the search feature but there wasnt a whole lot of info)
I was wondering how hard is it to organize a first rate coaching clinic?
How many months in advance do you need to prepare and start booking speakers and sponsors?
Could this be done as a fundraiser ?
How much cost is usally involved ?
What do you offer the speakers ?
thanks for any help

Find a location...not a school. If you did it as a fundraiser then maybe the location rental could be donated.

It is VERY difficult to get big name coaches as speakers, especially those who are tied into the NIKE clinics. If you're lucky and know somone, you might be able to get a pro assistant. If you don't have a pro conncection, forget it. My advice is to get local Div II and III guys in your area, as well as coaches from successful high school programs.

I've put on a couple of clinics. Random thoughts off the top of my head.
Use local high school speakers that everyone would want to hear. This sounds like the first year, so for at least a couple years you could use local guys if its a one day deal. You could give 'em $50-100 a piece, depending how many people you have.
Have sporting goods vendors in the area come and set up an exhibit table and charge them a rental fee. Maybe one of them will sponsor the feed (see below).
You need to give the speakers and vendors at least a couple months advance notice.
How are you going to advertise? Word of mouth, send out mailers, etc? Get the word out at least a few weeks (preferably a month or better) beforehand.
You need to have a good feed and good speakers to have a good clinic. You have those and people will be happy and want to come back next year.

we just did one Follow advice of previous post and .... I think it is invaluable to have local, successful high school speakers, I know if we have school A on our schedule and they are speaking close by, I am there. Also, get sponsorship from a local orhtopedic or sports medicine place- have them pay for promo items such as tablets and pens if you can provide some sort of professional devlopment certification, that is good as well make sure to have good donuts and coffee in the AM pick a local establishment and have social afterwards- make them give you specials keep speaking times short and stay on schedule have your staff proctor a room to deal with technology issues
