Not sure how "coaching" central this post is, but this thought occured to me...
The Run and Shoot has effectively been "blacklisted" from the NFL since June Jones got fired by the Falcons. Kevin Gilbride, a Run and Shoot devotee, is being mentioned once again as a hot HC commodity around the NFL. Tim Tebow isn't that highly regarded by NFL scouts, but he's got nothing left to prove in college and IMO he may be the best fit for a true 4-wide Run and Shoot offense to ever play.
Seems like pairing Tebow with Gilbride and then unleashing them both on NFL defenses would be a quick and easy way for a struggling team (say... the Lions) to score some points and put butts back in the seats. Does anyone think this is a realistic possibility? What do you think of Tebow in an NFL Run and Shoot where he'd be half-rollling, scrambling, and putting pressure on underneath coverage with his legs? Or do you think that the Run and Shoot won't work in the NFL anymore with today's sophisticated defenses?

How do you figure? I thought traditional R&S QB's were based upon accuracy and not mobility? More so, doesn't a R&S qb have to be able to read on the fly? I think the thing Tebow has the most problems with, is reading coverages... His arm is strong enough, he's definitely mobile enough, but it seems that once his primary read is a no go... and the check down is taken away... game is over.

personally i think he can be an NFL QB. the guy is smart and a winner.how about him running your version of Wildcat?and throwing off that. He would certainly be very well suited to the Canadian game as was Turner Gill (till his head injuries sidelined him)who should have won coach of the year for what he did in Buffalo.

I don't think he comes out... That being said, (As a Giants fan) I'd be sad to see Gilbride leave with his old playbook (not Coughlin's) and go to Detroit. If the Lions take Andre Smith first round and Tebow in the second than who knows. I mean whats the worst that could happen.. 0-32?

gilbride has adapted many run and shoot principles to the one back offense. while at buffalo they ran choice from oneback sets.
as for tim tebow. he is going to make a nice H back like Dallas Clark is for the colts. oh he will be drafted to play qb but will eventually switch positions. Just like Vince young will eventually convert to TE or he will be out of football. he cannot handle the pressure which the nfl qb position requires.
the run and shoot will not ever make a complete come back in the NFL. If I told you why I would have to blow you up like the mission impossible takes. Lets just say a offense coach spilled the beans to defensive coaches.
however with more and more teams going to the 34 defense you are going to see more and more spread passing concpets in the NFL. expose the outside libers who have to play both the run and the pass.
