In a high school game, what is an average number of plays for a game, including the special teams?
The college game averages about 125, so by the math, it would seem that 100 would be about right for a high school game...is that right?

We tracked it a year ago and we average 60 plays on offense. That may help get a rough estimate.

I'd say 60 or so is average. I am just putting our games together from last year combining the endzone and sideline shots (we dont' have a fancy film system so I do it on my mac) and there are probably about 150 total plays per game so figure out special teams plays and it averages about 60 on offense each usually.

I can not imagine there being 150 plays in high school...in a 60 minute game in college they average about 135 this year...so I am thinking that it is closer to 120 or so for high school...

no, there is typically about 60 plays for each teams' offense. then, about 20 or so special teams plays. generally making the total number of plays .. i.e. the number of times the ball was put in play to around 150. remember, penalties count as "snaps" too, even if they don't necessarily get recorded as "plays" in the stat sheet.
btw way, how many total snaps does your high school team typically get on average?

That is what I am looking at...we were on the field an average of about 51 plays(just took last 9 games average)...our offense was not very good and our D was on the field most of the time so we probably averaged 40 plays a game on O and I figure another 15-18 on specials...that is like 106-109 a game...
After reviewing the numbers for the NCAA if you take 135 plays that the was average last year then in HS we should get about 108-110 a game...which would be about the figure that I calculated...

our total avg SNAPS was 133 this year... so, i am wrong?

Uh, no...I am not saying you are wrong...not at all...maybe you throw the ball more than we do...maybe teams in your area throw the ball more...
I have the last 9 games that we played in front of me...I am going off the numbers in front of me...51 defensive snaps over the last 9 games...I know that the O was not on the field as much as we were...maybe a 20% difference is too much but it was not equal...
Do you really think there are 20 special team snaps a game? That might be where I am missing some snaps...
Even if you have 100 snaps on O and D and 20 on Specials that is still 13 snaps less that you average...
What style do most teams play in your district?

Do you really think there are 20 special team snaps a game? Yep. Figure 2 ST plays for every score, FG or PAT and Kickoff. So if there's only 5 total scores between both teams that's 10 ST plays. Then 4-5 punts each is 20-ish ST plays.

Just looked at our stat sheet - this past season our average snaps per game O/D/ST was 129.8. Don't know if this helps anything, but thought I'd throw in another average for comparison.

Coach Huey...UTChuckd pretty much posted what I was trying to come to the conclusion on...
I do not know what I said that made you so frustrated...
I am a numbers guy and % guy so I am bored and thinking about football...
If I take the 51 snaps as an average...figure that we are a 6-6 team so double it for our offense that is 102 snaps plus 20 special team plays that is around 122 plays...you say 133 at your school...read and white had 130...
Just a mental thing as I am thinking and fine tuning some of my concepts...

No huddle offense we get around 65-80 plays per game. Kicking game is between 20-25. On defense between 50-60.

When we ran the inside triple our defense averaged between 55-60 snaps per game. However, we have since switched to the run and shoot and our defense was on the field an average of 65 plays a game this year. I am not a numbers guy but 5-10 extra snaps per game for a defense can be a big deal when figuring your total yardage stats.
