I know the site already discussed great quotes, but what about great stories that teach lessons or motivate your players.
Example: Short version - The leader of the Roman soldiers "burning the boats" so they could not retreat, they end up climbing the cliffs and beating England.
Hence the message of Commitment and Perserverence.
I would love to hear what other coaches use to motivate, if this was already discussed somewhere I apologize.

when Ambushed Push through. Believe it or not the only way to defeat an Ambush in a military situation is to attack it at the center.
football analogy. when things get tough push through. do not let Mr. fatigue get you.

we had a good story for our kids about playing with pain and being happy to play
our DC is also our HC's father, he found an old newspaper article about his dad from college and brought it in.
His dad was an absolute stud, got offers from every school in the nation for FB and track. USC used to fly him out on the weekends to go to disneyland... the whole 9 yards. he followed his HS coach to a smaller college and admits it was stupidest decision of his life
Anyways, he was a RB in HS and first few years of college. Bu he kept having shoulder dislocations. He ended playing his last two years at San Jose St. and had to move to guard. not because he wasnt a good RB but because he had to wear these huge shoulder harnesses to try to stop them from dislocating. The harnesses wouldnt allow him to raise his arms so he couldnt catch a ball or properly take handoffs. Part of the article our HC brought in was quotes form the teams trainer saying how even with the harnesses his shoulders would pop out 5-6 times a game and he would come out for a play, reset it, and go back in. Absolute bad ass, and i think it showed are players what being tough is all about

First Battle of Bull Run - first battle of the civil war. On July 21, 1861, ladies and gentlemen, including several members of Congress, packed picnic lunches and drove out from Washington in carriages to watch what they thought would be a festive occasion, the decisive and rapid end to the uprising. In mid-morning the battle seemed to favor the Confederates as the untried Yankee soldiers met their first enemy fire, but the Union soldiers soon gained the upper hand. By noon, they had overran the whole left side of the Confederate line. The excited spectators cheered and toasted each other with champagne when General McDowell waved a white-gloved hand to announce the success of his soldiers. However. before long the momentum changed when the Confederates rallied behind the courage of General Thomas J. Jackson, who was "standing like a stone wall" at the top of a hill. Beauregard ordered his whole army to charge, and General Jackson told his men to "Yell like furies!" As the men charged, they howled what would become known as the rebel yell. At the approach of this yelling mass of soldiers, the spectators were sent running for their lives, along with thousands of defeated and disheartened Union soldiers. Brightly colored parasols, picnic baskets, and army equipment were left helter skelter in the hurried retreat that became known as the "Great Skedaddle." www.suhsd.k12.ca.us/mvm/netlinks/1ballou11/bullruna.htmlThey thought they were coming to a picnic. what they got was a war

easy to be a part of something harder to be COMMITTED! look at your breakfast...the chicken was involved..or a part of your breakfast...by laying the eggs. But the Pig was COMMITTED to that breakfast.

Got this story about Muhammad Ali from a book on sports psychology.
(Paraphrased) "I grew up pour as a kid in Memphis, so when I got a brand new bike as a present it was my pride and joy. Problem was, the bike got stolen like a week later. I went all over town looking for that bike, I talked to everyone I met, but I never did find that thing. So whenever I get into the ring I look at the guy in the other corner and go 'That's him. That's the guy who stole my bike.'"
The kids enjoyed it, and for a week they ran around yelling about their bike.

When kids starting whining about practicing in the cold, we showed them the youtube clip of the Georgian news reporter that got shot in the arm during a live newscast. She put on a bandage and finished the report.
