coaching staff is seriously considering attending the system clinic this year....I don't want this to turn into another thread on whether this clinic is worth the money, just had a couple a questions:
1. what resource materials are you given to take home with you?
2. what do you feel was the most helpful part of the clinic?
3. is / was there anything about this clinic you didn't like, or
were there questions or problems you had that weren't
taken care of?
once again, I know what it's gonna cost us, don't want this to be a debate on the economy vs. the price of a coaches clinic, I'm just trying to get some solid information before we make a final decision.

Best clinic I've ever attended.
1. We were given a paper copy of the entire playbook, DVD copies of every clinic presentation, DVD cut-ups of the offense and the drills, a thumbdrive with powerpoint playbook, wristband system, practice schedules, installation schedules, sample call sheets, sample gameplans and more.
2. The best thing I took was the way they practiced. Getting a ton of live reps in practice, attention to the details, the way they teach the offense to the players.
3. The price is the main thing I didn't like. I also felt like the scheme was not as universal as advertised- we have to run the ball at my school because we don't want our defense on the field.
I will also use the practice and teaching ideas from the system no matter what offensive schemes I employ.

They, or other coaches may have some helpful ideas for you on how to shorten the game for your defense while still working within the system. |

We haven't paid for the system since Jan 2007. I never did take advantage of the conference calls but i was always curious about them.

How user friendly is the "system" to other offensive systems? Could you be a Wing-T team and go in and put in the system? Or do they really want you to whole sale your program?
We are going to more of a shotgun Flexbone as a base with the Spinner series as our base system. but.. we will continue to utilize the Airraid things we have been doing..
Mesh, Smash, Vertical, Flood (Sail), and stick..
I do feel the TF clinics can brings lots of things to the table in terms of practice planning, game planning, no huddle.. etc..
But do you feel a team who is not looking to whole sale.. could go and get their money's worth?

I would suggest if you are not going to go whole sale then save the money. You can of course use Air Raid with Wing t (either undercenter or gun) but with TF/System it is a different direction. If you are going to sell out to it then it works. If you want to use part of it or as just your passing game then get the info some place else.
What I mean by the just as the passing game is saying "this is how we will move the ball". I do know of some of the system schools that run the ball more than they throw. I need to look again at the practice methods/structure to adapt to what we will be doing.

I would suggest, if you have the money, go to the system clinic. Even if you do not whole sale, it will give you many ideas that you can use. I looked at offensive football differently after attending the clinic- it gives you excellent perspective.

How does the pricing work ? I have been at a school where we had TFS and I want to go again, can I be considered to be an alumni and only pay the 1700?

Our varsity bought and uses the system. Me being a former Wing-t guy, took the system the high school uses and adapted it to exactly what you are describing Air Raider...minus a spinner series.

We had one game this year where we completed the Mesh 8 times and dropped 2 others wide open.. we ran it from a tight flex formation.. X......T...G...C...G...T......Y ....Z..........................H .....................F ..................Q X and Y Meshed.. Z Runs a Wheel Route H Runs a Corner F Flares why one wheel and one corner? Vs a Man Look we like the Wheel.. zone we like the Corner.. as far as the difference in the two deep routes.. This was probably our most consistent play on the year.. the QB could find the meshers with limited pressure.. but if he got any leak.. he chit his pants. When we ran Smash from this formation we took the flexed ends and ran them on flat routes.. or shoot routes as some call them.. and the slots ran the corners.. |

I know you get a ton of dvd's from attending Franklins clinics. Does each staff attending get one set of dvd's? If so I would hope you would be allowed to make copies for the rest of your staff. There are no "this dvd will be damage if tried to duplicate" What do you get upon the start of the clinic? Just curiuos to see how the clinic is run.

We were mailed the previous year's clinic dvd's before we attended. After we attended we were mailed the dvd's from our clinic. The dvd videos copied very easily but the dvd computer discs did not copy easily.

Money aside, I have a couple questions about the system that I was hoping someone could give me some insight on. We're looking to adopt it this year but I will not be able to attend the actual clinic because of conflicts with other sports ect.... The system contacts assure me that I can get everything I need from the DVD's and CD-ROMS. Could someone who has used the system tell me if this would be an effective method?
Also, are there any coaches out there that have bought in 100% and didn't improve or like it?
I hope I didn't hit on something that has already been asked here.

We tried to buy in 100% and we showed very little improvement. For us, in our conference, you must run the football. I tried to be a system guy for 1 year and we ended up having a lot of very quick three and outs. I still believe it is good stuff but it wasn't for us.

How expensive is it? I want to learn all I can about "air raid" offenses. Would it be valuable to an inexperienced person like me? Everyone advised to go to a lot of clinics, but aside from feeling out of place, I have a feeling this one is ridiculously expensive.

Thanks for your response HTown.
Why do you have to run in your conference? Is it because of your personnel? We have several very atheletic but undersized players so I thought it might be a good fit.
Was your one year with it a complete disaster?
Does anyone think it would be a problem impementing the system from the DVD's/CD-ROMs exclusively?
Yes, about 3500 plus the hotel fair....

The other offenses in our conference are so good that if we do not keep the ball away from them and play possession football, we are putting our defense in a losing situation. I am a big fan of the system- i love the screens, the 60's and 90's passing concepts, pass protection scheme and most of the techniques the system teaches. I will base any passing game I use in the future from the concepts I learned at the system clinic.
I just feel that TF and the other system coaches at the clinic are a little unrealistic about their stuff and how it relates to most high schools. Some years you're not going to have a thrower (maybe not even a guy that can throw screens), other years you may not have any deep threat receivers.
I've changed my philosophy on this in the past year- if you run the ball and have a bad play, at least the clock keeps rolling and the defense stays on the sideline.

We are going to the TF system this year. After years of being a smash mouth football team, our HC has decided to go to the TF system. We have a very good jr to be QB, plus a couple coming up in the middle schools. We always have had RB's but in the last couple years have been getting alot of talented wideout type kids. We have struggled the last couple years on the defensive side of the football. With the TF system could'nt you gear your pass/run ratio more toward the run? I know I have heard teams say they spend about 10% of their practice time on the run. Our HC said he wants a 50/50 run /pass ratio. I completely understand when you say you need to keep your defense off the field.

you can adjust your offense to fit your personnel, it's just that the presenters at my TF clinic emphasized pass first run second. they are very persuasive and me thinking a running game was unnecessary by the end of day three. i wish you great success with the system, just remember you don't have TF's players and TF doesn't have your players- you don't have to do everything the way he does it (even though it costs 3 or 4K now and your HC will probably want to).

I do not think you can get it legally. You can get it from some people. When you pay and sign up for the System you agree to certain things and they do not kid around about it.

I think Chris Hatcher does too. Also, spreadattack's just did a kind of all encompassing blog of what's available on the net for Air Raid. Lots of good info there too. But you can really only get the details of the offense from the DVDs or seminar. |

Do not waste time on the Mumme DVDs. As far as I know there are no books on the subject. There are coaching articles but no books which I am surprised.

Im sure if you feel this way, you truly couldnt have bought into the system. I would have gave it at least 2 years to let it truly develop. I guess it also depends on the coaches you have, and how close all the coaches pay attention to detail and how well the OC teaches everyone (players and coaches) the system. |

This is a passing offense to set up the run. I believe an air raid team CANNOT say they are going to be 50/50 run pass. You are a passing team, once the defense is either giving you numbers in the box or LB and DL are thinking pass you can run the football. There is a reason airraiders only run for 10% of their practices... |
