Im looking for some great ideas from guys on this board as to what they have done to increase the numbers in their football program! Our idea is to have a goal to get as many kids as possible out for freshmen football! We have a goal to get 100 kids out!! (usualy we have 40) What types of things can be done to get this done!

Walk the halls, especially the junior high hall ways if possible. Go eat and sit with kids in the lunch room. I try and do this 2 days per week. I now have lunch room supervision for 12 weeks, so I plan on talking to every kid who is out and who can help us on a daily basis.
Show up at their sporting events. I do not coach any winter sports so I go to as many home junior high basketball games that I can, I run the score clock for all the home 9th grade basketball games, I make it to all the home wrestling meets and sit with and talk to the parents as much as possible.
I coach girls fastpitch in the spring, but my assistants do a good job of making it to baseball games and track meets.

Anyone hold events to get kids out? Olympic nights., etc.... Also, my understanding is once you get a kid to come to your school and give you his info, you can contact him and invite him out for camps, practices, events..etc... Are there specific cannot do's.....I know offering money/grades, etc is a no-no, but as far as calling and saying "hey johnny, were having a team Bean Bag tournament, we'd like to have ya come out" sort of thing....??

I know in the DM Public School System you HAVE to win the recruiting war. Any kid in the system can choose to go to any HS. There is no "feeder" that automatically sends kids to one school. When I interviewed for a job there I had a plan to recruit that sounded much like a college coach, home visits, school visits, etc. Needless to say where I am now we do not recruit so much as we "entrap". LOL Kidding of course (unless your son can play in which case I will let him borrow my car and call it in stolen in 10 minutes).
