I just picked up the book titled "The Hurricanes" by Jere' Longman
This is about the South Plaquemine Hurricanes.. about what they were before Hurricane Katrina.. and what they became after..
South Plaquemine High School was created when Port Sulphur HS, Buras HS, and Boothville-Venice HS were all combined in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
This "little" school won the Louisiana class 1A state championship last year.. and I assure you.. NO team associated with this board would be "happy" to have to play them..
They are virtually a lock to win it again this year.. Their Qb, Ridge Turner.. set the state record for total yards in a single season last year.. with 5544 yards..
that was with 1818 rushing yards and 3726 passing yards..
And he is back this year for his senior year..
I have only read the first 4 chapters so far.. but it is a MUST read..
From the opening chapter which talks about how their coach.. Cyril Crutchfield rode out the storm in the school's gym with the water touching the backboards.. to the team having to load up on a bus and travel 60 miles round trip everyday just to practice.. and then to how they won the state championship last year.. this book seems to be GREAT so far..
here is a little clip from their state championship win last season..
enjoy..

might be a good story..but Crutchfield is a 100% PRIME TIME egomaniac/cretin as a coach.
At his old school (prior to the consolidation), they won the toss, he kicked off, and instructed his team to walk off the field after the ball was kicked, spotting the other team a touchdown. He then proceeded to win 62-6
