Hey coaches, I know this should go into the recruiting area but I was looking for a little more in depth help. I happen to coach a player who will be a 3 year starter as a long snapper. In my own opinion he is very good. He at least has the size at 6'5. Long Snapping would be his way to get onto a college team. I was wondering if anyone has had experience in getting a player like this looks from colleges and the best way to go about it?

hey coach - did something for one of my boys who practically never saw the field. short story, he got accepted at a FBS school and told me he wanted to walk on. we worked real hard on his long snapping and other athletic skills for defensive and offensive positions he could play. made a video of him doing his long and short snapping and other skill related stuff and sent it to the recruiting coordinator. (btw - real top notch kid - great student) kid gets a call a couple of days later and the coach says "welcome to -- football. we are looking forward to seeing you on August 3rd". shorten the story, the kid is on the squad and loving it (5:30 am workouts - ouch!) and mom and dad get 4 free tickets to every home game.
it's a long shot but you never know unless you try.

We had a player who ended up getting a full ride in college ( it took him 4 years) to long snap at Pitt. He was a 1-AA/D-2 recruit but wanted to play D-1 so he went and long snapped. I would say best bet is to get film out on him long snapping on FG and Punt and see what the coaches tell you. Best your prob gonna get is a walk on invite and then see if he can play him self into some money.

If your kid is a junior, I think those large kicking camps are a good place to start. the guys there want to see their campers signed
