Has anyone ever heard of this. A post season tournament for teams who do not qualify for playoffs? Someone said there is such a thing in Wisconsin? Anybody know the name of this?

Wisconsin teams who do not make the playoffs have an opportunity to schedule a 10th game. It is not mandatory or even very common. It is not a playoff system.
We considered it a year ago and were going to play another team using only our juniors and sophomores. It would've been a chance for us to get a look at the next season.

In Chicago, as soon as teams are eliminated from the state playoff series, they are eligible for the Prep Bowl. The Prep Bowl is played between the Chicago Public League and the old Chicago Catholic League schools. At one time, it was the biggest high school football game in the country and was played in front of crowds in excess of 75,000 people.
Since the adoption of the state playoff series in 1974, interest has waned, but the game will still draw 20-20,000 spectators at Soldier Field.

in los angeles there's two tournaments in the post season, there's the city championship and the city invitational tournament...invitational is sort of like the NIT i guess. both are 16 team tourneys, so 4 rounds, and they usually play the championship games one after another the same night at the LA coliseum.

In Minnesota almost all teams qualify for the section playoffs. The only way it doesn't happen is if you have 9 teams in your section (top 8 qualify).
The few teams who do not qualify can schedule a 9th game. Like another member said about thier state its not a playoff game.
If I were to do it I would only play juniors and sophs to get ready for the next season.

In Indiana, we all get in... there are only few more than 300 football playing high schools here though. Just a few years ago, a 3-6 regular season team won the state championship by going on an incredible run.

Just a few years ago, a 3-6 regular season team won the state championship by going on an incredible run. I played college ball with a couple of guys from Highland who went 4-4 in the regular season and then made it to the state championship. I think they lost a really close game to Ben Davis when they had that really good run in the late 80s to early 90s.
