ok here is our situation. we started out 4-1 then got to league play. we are 1-3 in league play right now, lost a heartbreaker to a playoff team( had 8 point lead in 4th on them, lost by 4) that would have really helped us we have our final game this friday, they are 6-2-1 we are 5-4. If we lose playoffs hopes are gone. If we can win however we will be 6-4 and that would put us with 4 other 6 win teams... So 5 teams would be battling for one spot, the way things look we think we have a good shot at getting the last spot should we win our last game. The kids know lose we go home, win and have a good chance of playoffs. My problem is what do i tell the kids if we do win on friday, but the playoff committee picks another school besides us for the playoff spot? I know they would be crushed since we have been telling them all week that if we win we have as good a shot as anybody of getting in to the playoffs

I would be honest with them from the start. Let them know...if they win, they've earned a chance to be considered for a playoff spot, but nothing is guaranteed. Play hard, and whether they make the playoffs or not..be proud of the effort they left on the field.

You take care of the things you can control and do not worry about that which you cannot. Win and you have an opportunity so win. The lesson should be take care of bussiness during the season and you don't leave it in someone elses hands.
