I used to work for a guy who would head bang in the locker room before the game. He would then go up to lockers and pretend to punch them...kind of like a boxer warming up before a fight.
It was one of the most hilarious things I have ever seen in my entire life. The first time I saw him do it, I was like, "What the F@%&?" Usually, I was already down on the field coaching the frosh-soph team but this week, we didn't have a frosh-soph game so I was up in the locker room. I started laughing so badly, I had to leave the locker room and wait outside.
I'm too old to get "pysched up"...about my only pre-game ritual anymore is eating a Subway footlong and taking a crap before I get on the bus.

I tried to put a playlist together once, but my mind races so much on game day I couldn't sit and listen to it. About my only pre-game ritual is to get in a bad mood sometime after lunch.

The voices in my head usually chant the pagan poems from the movie 300. but they do that on a regular basis anyway. How about writing up a couple of poems for us??

I never really needed to get fired up to coach. Am I wierd? Well, maybe but not for that. As a player I was a head banger. When I was preparing to hit people bouncing off of the wall to Born to Run made sense. Putting on my helmet and butting the bathroom wall full speed wasn't completely crazy. I'm not a player anymore. I have a completely different role in which going nuts has no logical place. Now before a game I do whatever I'd do on any other day and when I'm driving just listen to what happens to be on the radio. I'm excited enough about the game. No need for external stimuli.

I like the Al Pacino from Any Given Sunday or I like Bleed It Out from the newest Linkin Park album. After the game I like to sooth out with some CCR.

I don't get krunked before the game. I've never been a rah-rah guy, never been much of a pre-game talker. Silent, focused, a little twitchy...but when the first play is called it all just flows. ...as a player, I wasn't much of a talker before hand either...during the game I never shut up. I'm kind of like that as a coach too only the other coach can't hear me, but I talk chit all the time. "quit running that, we're going to hurt him" "don't you guys scout" "that's not there today d!ckhead" "this ain't 7 on 7 now is it b!tch" "here you go d!ckhead, check this out" "nice series d!ckhead" ***not sure why but "d!ckhead" seems to be my name of choice for opposing coaches, even when they are my friends. New HC this year, our first sideline together was this past friday. After the game he asked "who the heck are you talking chit to all the time?" I just laughed. we are polar opposites. before the game I was a talker and loved the rah rah stuff. however once the game started i was not a talker at all. for some odd reason I was in the zone a lot during games. every thing slowed down to a crawl. it was an interesting feeling. I would be running and putting moves on defenders. then I would get tackled and it woudl be like when you come up from being under water and all your senses hit you.

I only listen to music on my drive to school. I'm pretty pumped already when I wake up on Friday, but some intense music during the drive is more than enough for me.
I listen to:
Prodigy Metallica DMX and some dance/trance music

I'm with you. Lou's speech could motivate a rock..... What about the fake Lou Holtz speeches? If you are familiar with Holtz's pregame speeches these clips might make you pee yourself.

What else is there after that?

When I was a player, we used to get a footlong coldcut from subway @ 2:30 and watch a movie every friday after school before we had to be there to catch the bus for away games or get dressed for home games. (Don't get mad you older guys... the 2 movies my Jr. & Sr. years BARELY came out then)
Sophomore Year = The Program Junior Year = Varsity Blues Senior Year = Any Given Sunday
I could go line for line through all 3 of those movies in my sleep!
Nowadays as a coach, I just try to get the kids ready to play. My adrenaline gets pumping around 3:00 on THURSDAYS remembering what it was like to be getting ready to play... miss those days. Wish some of our kids would cherish the opportunity they have better than they do.
