I am sure some of you are like me ex-joke that have turned themselves into Fat *****s. Has anyone lost weight inseason? Anyone care to share any tips or things they did inseason. For me inseason is the worst. After game vistory bar trips, scouting dinners, etc.

Be disciplined. You demand it of the kids, demand it of yourself. It's not that hard. I've lost weight multiple times in season. My struggle comes out of season when I have free time.

Coach, here is the thing I have found. Don't let the job consume you. Make yourself take the time to exercise. I do it in the morning. I get up a little early and run every day. Also, you might try the atkins diet. Man i swear by it.

One thing that has helped me, is to eat more.
Find items that are lower in fat and lower in carbs and eat more frequently. Added with exercise I find this to help a lot.
AM Three eggs and a slice of toast (Water) AM2 One cup Cottage Cheece and some peaches (Water) Lunch One turkey rollups, baby carrots and an apple (Water) Lunch two Chicken or Tuna and rice with vegtables (Water) Afternoon snack Zone Bar from Walmart (Water) Dinner Small servings of whatever family is having or alternating something. Some good ideas are chicken breast or turkey burger. Supplement high carb stuff like potatoes with vegtables. (Water)Supplement desert with cottage cheese and peaches. (Water)
I like to eat my dinner later so that I am not hungry at 10 PM. I like to eat sometime around 7 or 8 if I plan on going to bed at 11 or 12. If still hungry have a low carb snack like cottage cheese, tuna fish, or a turkey wrap an hour before bed.
Make sure to drink lots of water. Drink a lot of water or Crystal Light (Walmart Brand), with every meal. Don't drink any beer and no midnight snacking. It is better to eat more calories in the morning to help get rid of the middle of the night cravings.
Three weeks ago I was at 336 and I am down to 322 and I have not been working out. The idea is to first get rid of the late night eating. Once you do that, then you can start cutting it back to five small meals a day.
Make sure when you get the wraps that you use the low-carb wraps that are 80 calories. These with three slices of lunch meat and light mayo are only about 190 calories. They are easy to carry around and easy to make.
I am going to start walking 30 min. a day and doing some abs. The key is to get the apetite in check first. I am hoping to make this the first season where I have lost weight.
I will check back in next week and we will see if I have lost anymore weight.

Coach, a lot of good ideas. I too struggle with putting on weight during the season. I usually put on about 15 pounds a season and then drop it during the off season. However, for some reason I didn't drop the weight this off season, so I am now trying to drop the weight in season and not put it back on.

A friend of mine coaches in Alaska. He was 330 last December. He is now down to 215!!!! He ate better, walked a treadmill for days, and rode a stationary bike. Totally natural weight loss. Proud of that guy.

one thing that i think helps a lot is stay away from SODA. even diet soda has so much bad artificial sweetner stuff in it.
you would be surprised, i have seen guys at the very least stop adding weight, with no exercise at all , same diet. but just avoiding all soda and other high sugar drinks.
stick with water as much as possible

I run/bike 6 days a week all year round. I think consistant exercise is the key especially around the holiday season. i do yoga twice per week all year long and I train martial arts twice per week all year long. during the season I do alternate days dips/pullups during my lunch hour. during the off season I lift more.
i am going to be 41 in 6 months. I weigh 165 to 170lbs and I have around 7 % body fat.

Okay, the last two days I have not done so well. I have to agree with both Dubber and Airman and to the house. Exercise is the key. I love to exercise, I am just too tired all of the time.

I've got the perfect diet, and it has been tried and true since I became a HC 3 years ago. What I do is stress a lot, rarely eat lunch, drink lots of water/Propel or now Powerade Zero when I get home at 9ish and eat a small dinner. Granted it isn't the healthiest but the weight comes off. Plus you get the bonus of potential hypertension and ulcers in the future.

sbv, we must have the same nutritionists or something. I agree completely, strees + powerade + little food is a great way to lose weight.

I stopped drinking soda about 5 years ago, and ever since then it's not only been easier to not gain any unnecessary weight, but according to my dentist my teeth are noticeably healthier! I guess all the sugars, etc. are REALLY bad for your teeth.

Guys, I cut out all beef...watched the saturated and trans fat...worked out five days a week, thirty minutes each time that's all, and went from 240 to 200 in about 6 months. I had to do it for health issues, but now I feel better at 35 than I did at 25. The things is just getting my butt up in the morning to do it. When I can lift in the morning, I have so much more energy during the day. I started to think that maybe I should start modeling the stuff that I am trying to teach. I am a p.e. teacher, so I should be in shape. I am a football coach, and should be a model for conditioning. Now, I defintely understand how this can get overlooked with everything a coach has to do during the season. I went about 10 years where the best meal I could get during a football season was a Big Mac, so I know the difficulties involved with staying healthy as a football coach. Once I figured i could get healthy with just 30 minutes a day, I got hooked. It's not easy, but very worthwhile. I would venture to say that high school coaches are not the healthiest demographic group out there, but it can be done.

It is tough to stay healthy during the football season. I'm the size of two healthy people so I guess that I'm doing something right.
