Kids are visual and seem to learn and remember much better when we associate visual cues to the coaching poitns we are trying to stress. These are some we use for our base offensive stance:
Ballerina- Keep feet straight, no out like a ballerina. Shoulder width apart, not staggered
Outhouse: Imaging using an outhouse that has been in use all day. Imagine you have to go #2 and do NOT want to sit on the seat. You hover just above the seat not quite at parrallel, with elbows on knees, hands to the inside.
Eye-Ball ( given to me by a coach in the crowd at a clinic in Baltmore): Hand is put down where you would imagine your inside eye, eyeball would have fallen had it dropped out of your skull. We are going to pick it up with just our middle 3 fingers touching the ground.
Paper-We want our weight on the balls of the feet. We do not what to be on our tip toes and we dont want to be flat footed. We want just enough room under the heels so just a sheet of paper can be slid on the ground under our feet.
We add each word to the next as we work the player through the progression of getting into a perfect stance.

That Eyeball and Paper I must have missed before, but it's going to really help me out today at practice. Thanks Dave.

The outhouse one is awesome! I called it "porta potty" though because most of my Southern California kids don't know what an outhouse is.

The "porta Potty" vision we give the kids is the entire NU stadium of 80,000+ gets to use one bathroom for the day, on game day. Just 1 bathroom for the entire stadium.
Do they want to sit on the seat at 6;00 pm the day of that game going #2 or do they hover above it?
Create the visual, they wont forget it.
