In terms of inspiring your coaching approach, and how to build a team; I'd go with the DeLaSalle story.

My DC & QB coch both rave about a book called the Mighty Orphans or something like that. I've not read it but I am going to after listening to them talk about it.
Personally I love anything by Lou Holtz.

I know its not a "football" book, but John Wooden's "They Call Me Coach" is the best all around coaching book.

The pure passion In jon grudens biography is still tops with me. Parcells is an older book but really good. Halas by Halas is really good Wins Lossses and Lessons by Lou holtz is GREAT READ. Coach A book on Bear Bryant Wow. Denny Creehans books on the wing t IMO should B on every coaches reading list As should all 4 Coverdale and Robinson books the education of a coach is a great read. Paterno is alright..... If you want a glimpse Sid Gilman I would read Fields of Honor. Not football related, I think its called Knight, a Bob Knight bio, is great coaching book. Lots of great advice.

There is another thread from a few months ago on this I'd look back there too.
You didn't stipulate that it had to be a coaching book so I am going to say America's Game. It is a book about the NFL. I loved it.
For coaching along with life stories, I like the Holtz books.
For a pure biography on a coach I'd say the Bear Bryant book was a great read.

When the Game Stands Tall- The book about De La Salle, is a great one. Season of Life by Jeffery Marx is a must read for any coach.

Junction Boys is a great read - the ESPN movie was weak. One of my favorites is Huddle: Fathers, Sons, and Football by Andrew Malcolm. I've given it to all of my coaches over the years. My wife even liked it.

Agreed, fbdoc. One thing that makes the book great is that it follows those players through three different seasons, something a movie can't do. Another good one is "Next Man Up", I think tha'ts the title, that follows the Baltimore Ravens through an entire season.

Bill Walsh - Building a Champion: On Football and the Making of the 49ers - Finding the Winning Edge
Lombardi - Vince Lombardi on Football - Run to Daylight
Jerry Kramer - Instant Replay
Second on Gruden's book and all the Coverdale/Robinson stuff, also Steve Axeman's Attacking Coverage's with the Passing Game. Joe Namath's book "It's a Matter of Style" is probably the best written book on passing mechanics I've ever read, "I Can't Wait Until Tomorrow (Because I Get Better Looking Everyday)" has some interesting stories from his early career.
Bo Schembeckler's "Bo's Lasting Lessons: The Legendary Coach Teaches the Timeless Fundamentals of Leadership" is destined to be a classic.
The best I've ever read was definitely Run to Daylight, if your local library has it it's well worth the read.

Tom Osborne "Faith in the Game". I thought the book had some excellent points about Team oriented goal setting, loyalty and a few other topics.
That being said I don't think much of Tom Osborne and think that some of the points he made in the book were hypocritical, but I do think the book was very good.

Tom Osborne's "Faith in the Game" was a great book. I didn't find it hypocritical at all...
Jon Gruden's book was great too.
Another one that hasn't bene mentioned is "We Own This Game" by Andrew Powell. It's written following a pop warner team in Miami. It's a great read and a pretty sobering account of "big time" football in the inner city.
