anyone have any good ideas on how to inexpensively videotape games from an elevated position?

Climb a tree, sit on top of a van, attach the camera to the goal post, sit in the bleachers...

Sit in th bleachers. Some coaches (if your not trying to scout them) might even let you set up a tripod as long as it doesn't interfere with his parents. I've seen that before. I've allowed it myself on those super cold days where you are lucky to get 1 parent out. Our parking lot is not really close to the fields so sitting on top of a van isn't really an option. Climbing a tree makes you look like a stalker. LOL

We do our own from bleachers.
I used to coach in a league where the "rich" program erected scaffolding at away games (they played in a nice stadium) and shot all their film from it.

Funny you should mention that , Andy Reid's kid played in our league ...he bought them a friggin news van complete with camera so they can video tape everything......you should see it
