I was reading the tread about whistles, and got to thinking, what about your first coaching shirt? Do you keep one, give them to the wife to paint in, leave them on your desk when you take a new job? I threw all my first job shirts in the trash, thought about burning them. However since I have kept a couple of tshirts, kept a pullover from the first undefeated season I coached, kept one ball cap in good condition from each gig and have the records written under the bill from when I was there. I usually leave all the polos, golf shirts, jackets, etc.... when I leave for a new job. I figure that the new guy will need a new wardrobe when he gets there. I have a couple of region championship patches too. I am not much of a scrap book person, but I also have a ton of newpaper clipping in a box.

I got a whole bunch of crap I can't wear. Not sure what to do with it. When I left my first gig, I gave a sack of shirts to the guy who took my place. Long story short, three years later, I was back at my first job as I finally landed a teaching job in the district (highest paying district this side of the state). Unfortunately, I will not be coaching there this year and will be on the other side of the town as the Junior High I teach at has asked me to take their ninth grade football job and ninth grade basketball job. I am still holding out for a teaching position at one of the high schools, but I have been pleased with the recent Junior High teaching position; however, I am worried that teaching History will result in a loss of my fluency in Spanish as I no longer teach ESL nor Spanish any longer.
Okay that was a tangent. I do like the idea of keeping a cap with a record on it from every season, however.

Still have my first coaching T-shirt...had an undefeated season. I like to hang onto my stuff (hats, polos, etc.) because it reminds me where I have been and how far I have come.

Ive worn the same pair of underwear in every game I have ever coached in.

I know I am not the same size I was in 93 so I wouldn't even want to put that stuff on let alone look at it knowing the amount of change. My wife still laughs when we clean out the garage and I put my HS jersey on and it barely fits. That is without the shoulder pads. Depressing!!!!

Lots of moves over the years. I would decrease my inventory at each new school like this - I would break out an "old" t-shirt and weave a wondrous tale about the young man who had worn it and how Billy here at my new school reminded me of him with his hard work, dedication, etc. The other coaches started to break out their archived shirts and it became a Monday tradition. For the past 7 years - same school - Ive collected quite a few tees between football and track and my wife decided to take them all and turn them into a quilt! Its actually pretty cool! Hope I don't have to turn in my Man Card for liking a quilt .

a quilt is easier to move the 100 t-shirts......
and call it a "stadium blanket" instead of a quilt.......that way you can keep your card....haha

Any coaches out there still wear the old school polyester 2 snap Bike Coaches shorts with the WIDE elastic waist band? I saw some coaches (I think they were from Texas) at the convention this year wearing them in the hotel lobby

Coach --
I wouldn't even begin to know where to look for those Bike shorts anymore!!! I used to have a pair in every color -- till my wife started throwing them away because she thought they looked so foolish.....man, would I love to see the look on her face if a few showed up again in the house!!!

We hook our high needs kids up with our coaching T's and Polos following each season. They love wearing our school "stuff" and what better use of something that promotes the school?
Even our faculty can't get our coaching clothing (and it's always really nice stuff) but our special ed/high needs kid do.
