Will any of you jump on the Aurburn bandwaggon now that Tony Franklin is there?
I tend to root for the teams on the college level that I can indentify with.. whether it be a favorite in state player who has committed to a team.. or a favorite coach..
I became a gator fan when Meyer went there..
I think it will be fun for all of us guys who run either his whole system, or parts of it to watch their games.. Not too many times will you see a college offense that you can completely understand from play to play.
but those of you who are completely in the TF system.. should be able to call every play on Saturdays next year..
I know I will be rooting for them..

I am a newly minted Auburn fan because of the personal connection.

is it 'okay' not to have ONE team to root for?
Am I going to be watching as many Auburn games now that Franklin is there? Absolutely. Do I hope they win because of Franklin? Sure.
I'll be watching NWMSU & the Red Raiders with the same ferosity.
I will entertain myself watching LSU games, but I'm just as much a fan of Crowton.
Is it okay to be a fan of football, and not declare "my team"?

lol yall can wath auburn all you want
i don't really care who wins but the teams i like to watch in no particular order
navy air force florida tcu texas tech
after watching air force last year evolve from flexbone into a more varied attack that I found very innovative-they are my number one team to watch this year for x and o enjoyment/ideas etc
gotta love watching navy blast off a 15 play drive though
i like watching tech too leach is a great guy and i just love how loose he is with a lot of things

i'm with brophy/tog/etc. I watch who I think I can learn a bit from. I will look for certain matchups too - when an innovative offense is facing a defense/defensive coach I think is good. I actually become less interested though if that defense is good because of huge personnel mismatches. There's a degree of interest because dealing with studs on the other team is part of the game but there's only so much you can do.
I have to admit I'll probably watch a lot of the teams mentioned but probably also Arkansas to see what Petrino does. I like KY's offense. They run a pro-style offense but give the QB lots of freedom at the line; you can predict what a lot of their checks are going to be.
tog and others, who besides Air Force and GT should I be following next year for the running game? (spread, flex, I, whatever). Anyone I'm missing out on?

Some of the teams I'll be keeping an eye out on are the following:
Syracuse - Mitch Browning is the new OC (formerly of Minnesota) should be interesting to see if the Orange will have success with the zone run schemes as did Minnesota.
Houston - Now that Kevin Sumlin is in place they too will be using the "Air Raid" offense. The new OC comes to UH from Texas Tech.
Tulsa - I always enjoy watching Gus Malzahn's offenses. They literally formation you into submission.
Hawaii - Everything I've read on them indicates that their version of the run and shoot will be run more from under center and will rely on the running game moreso than JJ's version.
UCLA - Looking forward to seeing Norm Chow's offense at work in Pasadena.
North Carolina - Very multiple pro style attack. Power run game, vertical passing game mixed with a ton of formation shifting and motion. Greg Shoop is the OC and his background with the Norv Turner/Mike Martz style system shows in UNC's offense.

Here's a different take on the direction this thread has gone. I'm a FAN of the Univ. of Oregon - last year there were few teams better than the Ducks until Dennis Dixon went down. It showed the very fine line between winning and losing. My question is this - which coach or staff is "Better"? The coach who continues to run his SYSTEM, play for play, with whatever athletes who come along or the coach who tweaks his SYSTEM to take advantage of the specific skills that his athletes have? I know its not a black and white answer but I'm asking the question anyway.

There is nothing like a good Western Athletic Conference game. So any game involving a WAC team I'm most likely going to check out.
Also going to be following Colorado, because Dan Hawkins is a freakin genius.

At least with the QB went down at West Virginia.. that had an equally athletic guy step in.. maybe not as good.. but he was still the same type player..

Thats what I was getting at. Different kid but very similar results. Oregon never recoverd from losing Dixon (until the bowl game).

As my username may suggest, I'm a Michigan fan and will root for them regardless of offensive style. But, I do like watching teams that can be dominant in one facet of the game whether it's passing or running. I like watching the teams mentioned--Texas Tech, Hawaii (perhaps now SMU), Navy, etc. I'm also an Urban Meyer fan and like watching Florida.

I think Mizzou and Kansas are also two teams that are interesting to watch from x and o and as a fan of offense. I try to watch as much as possible during the season...gotta love Thursday College football for us HS coaches!

I'm a die hard Alabama fan, but I'm also a big fan of Franklin's. I used to watch the videos (and still do occasionally) and my girlfriend (also big Bama fan) could hear them playing and I would rave about how good he is and how good the "system" is. Now she's worried.
I think AU will struggle against the better than average teams this year. I dunno that he has any playmakers. I'm sure they are on the way though.
I expect the Iron Bowl to mean something other than "I hate you and I hate you" for as long as Saban and Tuberville stick around. Which may not be long judging on Saban's history and the Auburn administrations history. Regardless I'm looking forward to that Iron Bowl when both teams are in the top 10 and fighting for a chance to go to Atlanta.
Other teams I love to TiVo:
Texas Tech Mizzou Florida North Alabama Oregon NMSU Nevada Nebraska (I love Bo Pellini)
On another note, I'm pretty pumped about watching Ga. Tech line up against the Noles.

My connection is to Auburn, not Tony Franklin. And I want them to win every game no matter who is there. I can't claim that I was a fan of the spread before he got there, but I have been sold on it. I don't guess I had much choice. And since I've studied it as much as I can, and seen some of you guys say that your fans of Tony, and that the offense is a sound Xs and Os package, I'm sold on it if coaches are. Tuberville has really hit the early recruiting trail and already has 16 commits. More than a couple are diminuative speedster WRs, and that, of course is drawing fire from others, Alabama fans mostly. They're saying Tubs has given up on getting any good players now that Saban is in town, as some of his early commits only had offers from "lesser" schools like Tulsa, Southern Miss. etc. Oh well, that type talk is to be expected from them. The only real change I see in recruiting is at the WR position. And I have no doubt they'll go after bigger ones too as long as they have the speed and ability. I think once they have a season to show that the offense will be more prolific, then that in and of itself will be a fine recruiting tool.
Im sure there'll be some growing pains along the way. I think Auburn has a nice shot to win the SECW and go to Atlanta if the offense works out good.

Yeah, I will be. With the exception of LSU it has been hard for me to watch SEC football. TOO defensive...Sorry defensive guys. I miss the old Kentucky days and it is good to see this brand of football in the SEC. Other teams: Navy Army Air Force---Love the Option teams. Georgia Tech Hawaii - Under Center RnS is going to be interesting. Texas Tech Oregon State - LOVE Mike Riley Colorado - Diggin' the Wing T style Hawkins is using.
However, all will be tivoed. Just took a college job so most Saturday's will be shot.

Colorado - Diggin' the Wing T style Hawkins is using. A note on Colorado, they will be a full blown no-huddle spread offense next season. I watched they're spring game and their new offense is along the lines of Missouri and Kansas.

The real question is how do you Auburn fans feel about the butt whippin you are going to receive in Morgantown? Seriously though it should be a great game.

Until they start playing the games and I know more about what Auburn's really got...I have predicted 10-2 with losses to WVU and UGA, and that still puts us in Atlanta which is fine with me. That's right now. I am getting a little feeling that WVU is going to have some growing pains this year, and personally, I think they acted in haste and over emotion by hiring the asst. coach they hired/promoted. I don't know anything about him though, and he may be great, but it looked like a knee jerk hire after the bowl game. Like they felt they owed him the job.

I understand why you would feel that way but there are a few factors that I feel you have left out in your thought process. 1.) WVU still has Pat White, who could possibly be the best player in college football. WVU has been living off the offense for the past few years and ever since he took over the QB spot he has been the key to WVU's success. Not to mention they have the entire O-line and Noel Devine back who will be making a ton of noise this year. WVU will not miss Slaton this year bc Devine he probably going to be better in the long run. 2.) The coaching hire I will agree was a knee-jerk reaction but the assistant coaches they have gone after and hired make it all worth it in my opinion. They already have one of the better 2009 recruiting classes in the nation based on what former Urban Myer assistant Doc Holliday and Chris Beatty have done in the 757 area of Virginia. Mullen from Wake and Calloway from Appy State have both run the spread successfully at their former schools so there should be no drop off. Anyone that follows college football knows that the 757 has some serious football talent. 3.) Did I mention WVU still has Pat White for 1 more year? ;D

Alabama and Auburn were recruiting him as a DB, but in fairness, he wouldn't have fit in a traditional offense like they were running then as a QB. Then again, all the locals mis-evaluated Phillip Rivers too, and let him get out of Alabama, to NC State, and all the way to the NFL. I understand why WVU did what they did. It's just a hunch it wont work out. And I freely admit I know next to nothing about WVU football, but hope to make the game in Morgantown when Auburn plays them.

Hey eaglemountie Do you know if WVU is returning the trip to Morgantown with a game in Auburn the next year or 2? Or is it a "one and done" deal?
