Time is gearing down.. and I am left with 1 spot on my staff that our district will pay for..
I have tried to find coaches, but many issues such as teaching positions and such has made it tough to find one..
My question is..
Should I look within the school and find someone to be our video coordinator? Would have them film games and practices.. come in early saturday morning and dub films for coaches.. maybe even teach them to break down film into O and D..
They would do other managerial tasks...
They would get the same stipend that any other first year coach would get..
do yo feel people out there who are not actually coaches could/would conform to the needed work to get these things done?

Try one of the AV people?
Or one of the computer teachers may be a good option. If they know nothing about football they have no bias for anything I guess. Just tell them exactly what you want.

can you split a contract and pay a student to do this?
and/or get a managerial type kid (cough cough Stefan) to do this for credit (extended studies)
Unless you plan on filming every practice, it would seem that relegating a staff position for a guy that shows up once or twice a week would be a waste, no? I realize beggars can't be choosers, but you likely could find a FT game-night filmer among the boosters / dads, and just be responsible for dubbing the film yourself.
Will you be using Video Cataloguing / scouting via computer software ala DSV/ ProScout? If not, the VC title would be rather hollow, yes?

I second the sentiments of Brophy! I like what Trimble does for his filming at Jenks - calls them something like the Friday Fathers Film Crew and uses 2 junior fathers and 2 senior fathers each year.
I don't think I could burn a spot on video - even though it really is an important task. We have our staff problems as well, but I found two guys who graduated two years ago and we're splitting a stipend between them (still in the local college) and grooming them as our next Frosh coaches.

AIR---
Is the choice between either the VC getting the stipend..or the district saving the money? If so, screw the district, and pay SOMEBODY to help you out...

AIR--- Is the choice between either the VC getting the stipend..or the district saving the money? If so, screw the district, and pay SOMEBODY to help you out... Right now its pretty much either pay someone or the money goes unused. I have already used my 4 CECP spots.. and with the parental support most of my kids have, it will be tough to find a parent who I can really count on. The accountability issues is also one I would have with a student in the school. "My grandma said I had to help here tonight and I cant film" or something like that would be sure to come up. With this paid spot, that would be their job and they would be required to do what they are hired to do. Thus, giving me someone that I will be able to count on. I showed up this year to find out that 4 games last year were not even filmed.

Hey Air, I was hired in 02 to be the second film guy for varsity and coach jr high and freshmen plus I was the head coach of our sixth grade team. I did endzone that first year. The second year my wife filmed endzone and I coached on the sideline as a asst coach on the varsity. After that year, Coach Dunn said that Father filmers wanted to watch their kids play without having to work filming and asked me to become the fulltime video coordinator in which I film practice 3 days a week during the season,(Mon, Tues, Wed). I film all freshmen, JV, and varsity games. I have taught a couple moms to film middle school games. It is important I feel that your VC has football experience so he will know what he or she is filming. I dub the film onto a DVD then make copies using a duplicator so each coach depending on what level could have copies. I also make plenty of copies for the kids provided that they bring me their own dvds. I load all varsity games into a computer for tight, wide, and endzone on friday nights for film breakdown and we use DSV. I get all of that done by 2 am. By then, I normally have the opponents film for I send a asst coach to pick it up that night if the other team will agree to it. By 8 am I have made copies onto DVD for the coaches to take home to study during the week. I also load the trade copies onto the computer and ODK it for the coaches that walk in about 8. I operate personally the tripod that shoots a wide and a tight and I taught a young lady that is a teacher at the school to shoot the endzone version which we use a cranking system from EndZone Video so she never has to get off the ground. If you are having trouble finding CECPs that are student asst. I had good luck looking for them on the Texas 5A football forum. I had two kids come from Katy TX that helped us last year. One stayed for this next year and the other entered the military. I found another CECP student coach because I ran into him at Walmart and I coached him in jr high several years ago. I even made requests on Ken Ramsey board in La for student CECPs. They are your best bet. The video from the practices are really important so coaches can go back and review practice to see what they put in really works. A lot of the time, they can't see everything that is happening on the field. I am a paid VC, it would be very hard to ask someone to do all that I do for free. I suggest paying someone to do the job.
